This kit from Dragon Models of the World War Two German Panther tank prototype is somewhat of a curate’s egg. Some parts good, some parts less so. However, it IS the first mainstream injection molded plastic kit of the prototype of this seminal German medium tank, and so for this Dragon are to be commended for issuing it. But it is, as I say, not without its faults. Read on…..
Welcome to the IPMS/USA Reviews site!
Introduction: The primary organization of the IPMS/USA Review website is by IPMS/USA National Contest Class. Within each Class there are sub-menus by kits, decals, books, etc. The Miscellaneous Class is for items that are not class specific or that cross two or more classes.
IPMS/USA Members: We encourage you to submit reviews, both here and to the Journal. To volunteer for membership in the IPMS/USA "Reviewers Corps" and submit your own reviews, please read the Guidelines For Submitting Product Reviews.
Manufacturers, publishers, and other industry members: IPMS/USA is pleased to offer your company the opportunity for product reviews. Sometimes when you are building a diorama there is that one thing that will set yours apart from the rest. This is one of those items.
Aerobonus has provided unique pieces for the aircraft diorama buffs in the past and these little gems are just what the doctor ordered.
On airfields, regardless of eras, there are always fire extinguishers. They are in the background but always around the engine, just in case of engine fire. Aerobonus provides you with four fire extinguishers cast in blemish free grey resin. The resin encompasses the cylinder, the horn and extinguisher handle. You will have to supply the wire to make the hose. That alone would be quite nice but that’s not all, Aerobonus also provides you with decals to make your individual fire extinguishers. While the item description says US Navy, I’ve seen these fire extinguisher used by the USAAF and foreign airfields.
The Tamiya Mustang kit is one of my favorite kits. The fit is good and it looks the part. Sure the cockpit floor is not right but that is the only thing.
One thing that real aircraft often have is displaced control surfaces, especially the elevators. Until now if you wanted to do that you had to perform surgery and thin and bevel the tail then fill the elevator and shape it too. Let’s face it, this was a pain in the …. Thank God that Aires also likes to see aircraft with the drooped elevators and has provided an easy answer.
The Revell website sums up this vehicle nicely, “The 2013 Camaro ZL1 is the most technologically advanced Camaro ever made. In 1969, the original ZL1 was a custom-built COPO ordered car with an all-aluminum 427 c.i.d. engine. It was a bold move for its time. Stepping ahead more than 40 years, the 2013 ZL1 is even more robust, with a 6.2 liter supercharged V-8 pumping out 580 horsepower.”
Following on the heels of the release of the Mercury Capsule model, Horizon Models is breaking ground with the release of a 1/72nd scale model of the Mercury-Atlas. This release includes parts to construct one Mercury capsule with the addition of the parts needed to build the Atlas launch vehicle. In the way of a preview of things to come, Horizon has also announced the release of an Atlas ICBM version in the near future. It will use the same basic parts as the launch vehicle in the Mercury-Atlas kit.
