This kit is a collaboration between Das Werks and Customscale and what a great little kit. The subject matter is a Rheinmetall experimental Flak Weapon with 8 barrels. There is one one example still around which is in a Moscow Museum. There is not official records or documents around anymore on this subject. The only reference I could find was an old “Nuts and Bolts” publication with a photo walkaround of the one on Moscow.

The kit contains

  • 4 sprues molded in light grey styrene
  • 1 Photo Etch sheet
  • 1 instruction booklet.

Construction

The instruction booklet is great and very detailed to assist in the build. There were a couple of minor errors that I list below that I found during the build.

Section 1 is the Base Assembly made up of 5 simple sub sections. These all went together very easily and with no issues.

Section 2 is the Gun Cradle made up of 6 sub sections. Once again, these all went together very easily. The only thing I found at this stage was a few ejector pin marks to clean up.

Section 3 is the Gun Breech and Barrels made up of 10 sub sections. Once again, these all went together very easily. The only items here to note are as follow:

  1. at 3.3 the location of the parts B51 and B52 need to be aligned carefully.
  2. at 3.7 the parts number C11 and C12 should be A11 and A12.
  3. at 3.10 The attachment of the barrels using the jig included were still very fiddley and needs a lot of attention.

Section 4 is the Final Assembly made up of 12 sub sections. Once again, these all went together very easily. The only items during this build sections to note are as follow:

  1. at 4.5 attaching the part B12 is fiddley.
  2. at 4.7 parts B29 and B30 have been switched. the location of the parts B51 and B52 need to be aligned carefully.

Then on to painting which is very simple as there are only two schemes, I selected the second one.

Overall, I found this kit enjoyable and fun. This is very well detailed and builds into an awesome model!

Thanks go to Das Werk and MBK for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
