Welcome to IPMS/USA Reviews

Introduction: The primary organization of the IPMS/USA Review website is by IPMS/USA National Contest Class. Within each Class there are sub-menus by kits, decals, books, etc. The Miscellaneous Class is for items that are not class specific or that cross two or more classes.

IPMS/USA Members: We encourage you to submit reviews, both here and to the Journal. To volunteer for membership in the IPMS/USA "Reviewers Corps" and submit your own reviews, please read the Guidelines For Submitting Product Reviews.

Manufacturers, publishers, and other industry members: IPMS/USA is pleased to offer your company the opportunity for product reviews. All product reviews are performed by IPMS/USA members, and are posted in the publicly-accessible section of our website. With very few exceptions, we perform full build reviews of new kit releases, aftermarket products, and supplies. If you would care to provide product samples for review, please contact the IPMS/USA First Vice President.

Ian Baxter is a prolific author and has an impressive collection of photographs, many unpublished previously. The book follows the familiar Images of War format with brief introductions for each chapter followed by a lot of photographs to tell the story. Hitler's Vengeance Weapons - V-1, V-2 and V-3 Launch Sites does not disappoint and there is a lot of interesting information and photos in this well written and illustrated book.

Eduard has graciously provided the IPMS Reviewer Corps with their new Limited Edition dual combo kit: Wilde Sau, Episode Three: Until the Fall of the Empire. Featuring the Fw 190A-8 and Fw 190D-9 kits in 1/48th scale.

This is Part 3 of this kit review, and it will focus on the Fw 190D-9 airplane build.

In the Box

For the Fw 190D-9 kit, the second half of the instructions are dedicated to its assembly.

Per Scalemates.com, the Fw 190D-9 kit is an older molding (2010) than the Fw 190A-8 kit (2017). The D-9 wing and fuselage rivet detail is not as prevalent compared to the A-8 kit. So, there are some dissimilarities in parts molding and format. This is not bad but noticeable.

For the D-9 kit, assembly starts in the cockpit, but you will have to cut of the molded detail for the side instrument panels to apply the PE parts. But there are options to use decals to overlay on top of the molded panels or you can paint it by hand.

From the Introduction -

Tuesday, 6:02AM (GMT+9), 29 August 2017

Residents on Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, wake to an emergency alert on their phones. The morning dark is washed from their faces as blue-tinged screens alight. Sleepy-eyed, in bedrooms or on early commutes, they stare disbelievingly at the message as around them alarm sirens begin their unearthly wail:

Missile launch. Missile launch. A missile has been launched from North Korea. Evacuate to a building or underground.

Though the country had over the previous decades slowly grown accustomed to the menace periodically emerging from its walled-off resting ground on the upper Korean peninsula, 2017 had been a year unlike any other.

The USS Ramsey had her keel laid on 4 February 1963 as a Destroyer Escort, designated originally as DEG -2. As the second keel of the Brooke (DEG 1) class of destroyer escort she carried armament of one 5” gun and an ASROC Launcher forward of the bridge. On her aft deck was a Tartar missile launcher, with two torpedo launchers both port and starboard amidships. Also carried was one Seasprite Helo for anti-submarine duty. She spent time on Yankee Station off the coast of Viet Nam, then finished her career designated FFG 2 on 1 September 1988 when decommissioned. Stricken from Navy lists in January 1992, she was later sunk as a target on 15 June 2000.
