Box Art

This is Omega Models all resin T-41 which is the US armed forces version of the popular Cessna 172, The kit can be used to build both a US Army or US Air Force aircraft.

In the box is:

  • 6 x strips of molded resin parts
  • 1 film sheet
  • 2 x vacuum formed clear parts
  • 2 x small decal sheets
  • 1 wire
  • 1 instruction sheet

The kit consists of 44 resin parts some are not required as they are from the standard Cessna 172 kit. The resin parts are extremely well molded with a little flash but great detail; the decal sheets were not too impressive and you may want to get alternative decals. Also, the vacuum formed windscreen and rear window are not too good.

Construction

The instructions are very simple and you just need to try to follow fitting the parts numerically.

First, as always is the cockpit, I did feel the seats were low when I tested fitted them so I added some legs to raise them up and that made the interior look better. There is not much reference in the instructions in regard to interior colors so you need to look at online or books for the details. There is not instrument detail so I added some myself. There is also no seat belts which could have been molded on to the seats.

Next, you need to add the cockpit windows and windscreen. These could have been greatly improved and would have made the kit great.

I found there was some filling needed during the build but not too much.

The nose needs weights added, but I found space was not enough to allow you to add the full amount of weight needed to sit on the front wheel.

The wheel braces too did not have enough grip on the fuselage and these broke of several times during the build. I recommend drilling the holes to attach them deeper and extending the wire on the wheel strut.

The painting was easy and I choose to do the US Airforce version. The decals were another issue I had, one sheet was printed on white so needed trimming to the design before application. They also were hard and somewhat brittle. I do highly recommend buying decals for this kit.

Summary

This was a great kit but would have been a lot better with improved decals and windscreen etc..

Thanks go to Omega Models for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
