B-26B Marauder
ICM has provided this great new release for review, in 1/48 scale model of the B-26B Marauder. This is based on the original release from a few months earlier this is the D-Day Anniversary version with addition ground and flight crew included.
- Eight grey Sprues
- One Clear Sprue
- One Decal sheet
- One Instruction guide including printed mask templates
- One instruction sheet for the figures
- Plus, one sprue of the Flight and Ground crew
The detail quality is excellent in every way with this kit, crisp and detailed molding has become the norm for ICM.
The assembly is quick and easy.
The assembly starts on the left-hand side of the main fuselage. The few ejector pin marks should be filled/cleaned up on both halves of the fuselage.
Stages 1 to 6 are the assembly of the interior parts of the left fuselage. Be careful with G17 and G26 as they are very fragile. No issues were found in these stages.
Stages 7 to 25 are sub-assemblies for the interior. At stage 18 you will need to open up the hole for part 17 as it was too small. For stage 25, I do recommend assembling in the following order E12 to E4 then add assembly 20 and assembly 24 as this is not easy to put together.
Stages 26 to 42 is the interior assembly into the right half of the fuselage. I think that ammo belts would have been a great addition to this kit as they would be visible. Also again be careful with the Parts 16 and 23 as they are fragile.
Stage 43 is the assembly of the two fuselage halves. Please do not forget to add the weight, also you will need more than 50 grams as it is only just enough, and my completed aircraft, if touched, seems to lift off the ground easily with 55g of weight.
Stages 44 to 50 are the assembly of the aircraft tail and assembly of the aircraft. You will need to paint the interior color in parts of stage 45. There was also some filing and filling with the part E13. The tail assembly in stage 46 is also a little taxing when lining it up correctly.
Stage 51 to 62 assembly of the bomb bay doors, guns, nose glass, etc. You can select to have the bomb bay open or closed. I opted to open to show off as much interior as possible.
Stages 63 to 80 are the main wing assemblies; these were a smooth assembly with no issues.
Stages 81 to 94 is the engine and cowlings. Here the only place to take great care is stage 93 as the assembly of the cowling needs a lot of work for proper alignment.
Stages 95 to 108 is the final engine assembly and adding them to the wings. Once again, the assembly was easy and simple.
Stages 109 adds the wings. They fit perfectly and can be left loose for easy transport to show if you want to.
Stage 110 to 124 is the addition of the landing gear and gear bay doors. These went together very easily and look great when completed.
Stages 125 and 126 is the completion of the build.
I painted the aircraft during the assembly and did the D-day scheme.
The decals are now applied except for a few added during the assembly stages.
Last was the assembly and painting of the ground and flight crew. These figures were a very nice addition to this kit and add great look to the finished kit.
In conclusion, this is an awesome kit and I enjoy building it.
Thanks go to ICM for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
