Spitfire Mk.II ExhaustPublished:
Quickboost has added a set of exhaust stacks to their line aftermarket parts for the new 1/32 scale Revell Spitfire Mk.II. The Quickboost set provides a pair of exhausts that feature detail that closely matches the kit-supplied parts. These parts accurately depict the flattened shape of the openings in the first two exhausts in each stack and the circular opening of the last one. The Revell kit provides exhausts with open ends, however, they are comprised of four parts, and the modeler must clean flash from the openings of each exhaust port prior to assembly. The Quickboost set may help speed up the build, as their exhausts are molded with the ends open, but do not require assembly of separate halves to achieve the open ends, nor do they require the modeler to clean up… more |

Fokker D.VII (Fok) - Part 1Published:
The SubjectThe Fokker D.VII is one of the most recognized fighters of the Great War and has been chronicled so many times that it is unnecessary to spend a great deal of time describing it to this audience. Suffice it to say the legendary fighter was (and still is) widely considered to be the best German fighter aircraft of WWI. Almost 3,300 Fokker D.VIIs were built by three manufacturers (Fokker, Albatros & OAW) in the last year of the conflict and they were often the reason a number of German pilots achieved ‘Ace’ status. Before building any model of this iconic aircraft, I would encourage modelers to seek out and read some of the history of the Fokker D.VII to more fully appreciate the experience. The KitWingnut Wings has produced four versions of… more |

Fairey Firefly - Hispano 20mm Cannons In Short FairingsPublished:
Master-Model offers modelers three different sets of turned metal parts that can be used in place of the Special Hobby kit’s plastic parts to add extra detail to models of the Fairey Firefly. These sets are available in both 1:72 and 1:48 scale. This set (AM-48-097) provides parts to assemble crisply detailed 1:48 scale Hispano 20mm cannon in short fairings for the Fairey Firefly. The Master-Model parts are designed to replace the injection molded ones in Special Hobby kits without significant surgery. Since the kits already have holes on the wings’ leading edge to install the injection-molded parts, the Master-Model barrels should literally drop in place instead. (Although the size of the holes may need to be increased to 1.5mm diameter to accept the plug on the end of the… more |

The parts may be used to replace the injection molded ones in the Special Hobby kits without significant surgery. The kits have holes on the wings’ leading edge so it is likely the Master-Model barrels will literally drop in place. (Although the size of the holes may need to be increased to 1.5mm diameter to accept the small extension on the end of the fairings). Note that two types of fairings are provided in the set. The set… more |

Windsock Datafile 61 – Brandenburg W12Published:
Worldwide interest in Wingnut Wings’ announcement of a new 1:32 scale Brandenburg W12 floatplane kit along with Copper State Models recent 1:48 scale kit releases have prompted Albatros Productions to offer model builders a limited edition reprinting of its long-out-of-print Datafile 61 covering the Brandenburg W12. It is one of three reprints of Datafiles covering WWI floatplanes to be announced this year. The Brandenburg W12 was known as the ‘Kamel’ (or Camel). It was a two-place biplane, powered by the 160 hp Daimler-Mercedes D.II engine, equipped with twin-floats and offering its crews the performance needed to take on the Brit’s big Felixstowe floatplanes without hesitation. Its design features were influenced by technical data shared between Phonix, UFAG and Hansa-… more |

Brandenburg W29 - Windsock Datafile 55Published:
With Wingnut Wings release of dual boxings of WWI floatplane kits, Albatros Productions has decided to again offer a limited edition reprinting of its long-out-of-print Datafile 55 – Brandenburg W29. The subject must be a popular one because this is the second time Albatros has reprinted this Datafile. The Brandenburg W 29 was a low-wing two-place monoplane with twin-floats that gave the German Navy a superior fighter-bomber which was both aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and superior in performance to the various biplane floatplanes in service at that time. According to British Naval Intelligence reports following their first encounter with the W29, the Brits were quoted as saying, “the enemy machines were considerably faster than the F.2A flying boats” and “the new… more |
