Master Model has added two 1:32 scale detail armament sets for cannon equipped Hawker Hurricanes to their line of detail parts. These sets mirror sets they have produced in 1:72, 1:48 and 1:24 scale. This set (#AM-32-074) provides parts to assemble four highly detailed Hispano Mk.II cannon with flat recoil springs that were installed on the Hawker Hurricane Mk IIC. The parts are designed to replace the injection molded ones found in Revell Hurricane kits. All components are turned brass. The set includes two pair of wing fairings that are sized in different lengths for outboard and inboard positions on the port and starboard wings, four gun barrels and four turnings that simulate the flat springs.

Installation is simple…it requires that the kit’s molded-on barrels and firings be cut off and holes drilled to insert the metal fairings. Assembling the guns involves fitting each of the miniature turnings with simulated springs into the end of the barrels and inserting that assembly into the turned fairing (see the instructions below). Using tweezers is recommended when assembling these parts.

An instruction sheet clearly illustrates that the outboard and inboard cannon fairings are different sizes, describes the exact lengths and shows how to position them. The photos below from Master Model’s website show the parts that make up the highly detailed barrels and flat springs and how much more realistic they appear than the injection molded kit parts typically found in kits. Note that all parts in this set must be assembled to one another with Cyanoacrylate adhesives (or epoxy cement) and then attached to the kit wings using the same type of adhesive.

This set is highly recommended to average model builders who have a pin vice, a pair of tweezers, some super glue and the desire to greatly enhance the details of their next Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIC. My thanks to Master-Model for providing the review sample and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review it.
