L-29 Delfin - Delfin Air ScoopsPublished:
The L-29 Delfin was a jet-powered trainer airplane that was designed by the Aero Company of Czechoslovakia. An excellent kit of the Delfin has recently been released in 1/72 scale by AMK. Although this kit, in my opinion, is very good, our friends at Aires/Quickboost have found some areas where the accuracy of various parts can be improved. This set from Quickboost provides replacement air scoops. The L-29 airplane features several small air scoops around the outside of the fuselage. The AMK kit provides four of these different scoops. They are very small, have no detail and mount flat onto the surface of the fuselage. Very light markings are provided to locate the air scoops. The L-29 Delfin was a jet-powered trainer airplane that was designed by the Aero Company of Czechoslovakia. An excellent kit of the Delfin has recently been released in 1/72 scale by AMK. Although this kit, in my opinion, is very good, our friends at Aires/Quickboost have found some areas where the accuracy of various parts can be improved. This set from Quickboost provides replacement Antennas. The AMK kit provides a small “T” shaped antenna for under the left wing and a reasonable swept antenna for the top of the fuselage. The picture of my completed review model shows the kit upper fuselage antenna after painting. An inspection of the actual aircraft shows that the under-wing antenna is very thin and consists of two separate tubes going up into the wing. I am… more |

Although this kit, in my opinion, is very good, our friends at Aires/Quickboost have found some areas where the accuracy of various parts can be improved. This set from Quickboost provides replacement wingtip pitot tubes. The AMK kit molds the two pitot tubes integral with the wing upper surfaces. The picture of my completed review model shows the kit pitot tubes. They appear somewhat oversized and were fragile. I had to be very careful while masking and painting. I have read a couple of build reviews of the 1/48 scale L-29 from AMK and both of these replaced the pitot tubes with wire or… more |

Although this kit, in my opinion, is very good, our friends at Aires/Quickboost have found some areas where the accuracy of various parts can be improved. This set from Quickboost provides wing mounted pylons. The AMK kit provides combination pylon and fuel tanks. These look good but there are cases where the modeler may want to build a model without the wing tanks. The modeler may want to include some wing mounted munitions or they may simply want a model with only the pylon. Many photos of the L-29 on display etc. show the plane with only the pylons. The L-29 Delfin was a jet-powered trainer airplane that was designed by the Aero Company of Czechoslovakia. An excellent kit of the Delfin has recently been released in 1/72 scale by AMK. Although this kit, in my opinion, is very good, our friends at Aires/Quickboost have found some areas to give modelers some additional options. The L-29 Delfin was produced in several variations, including a photo reconnaissance version. This was accomplished by installing a specific conversion package under the fuselage. This version was used by the Czech Air Force and other Warsaw pact countries as well as by several export customers including Egypt and Vietnam. The L-29 Delfin was a jet-powered trainer airplane that was designed by the Aero Company of Czechoslovakia. An excellent kit of the Delfin has recently been released in 1/72 scale by AMK. Although this kit, in my opinion, is very good, our friends at Aires/Quickboost have found some areas where the accuracy of various parts can be improved. This set from Aires provides replacements for the kit elevator, rudder, and flaps. The four flap parts provide additional surface detail but mainly provide very sharp trailing edges. The flap parts also have some added detail molded into the sides of the flap parts. These parts must be carefully removed from their molding sprues because of their fine mounting struts. BackgroundThe Dassault Aviation company of France has been producing and exporting delta wing aircraft for 50 years. The first production series, the Mirage III, 5 and 50 started production around 1960. By the time production had ceased, over 1400 of these first-generation had been produced and various versions were in use in around twenty countries. The aircraft had a reputation for good performance, the ability to fulfill many different tasks and reasonable cost. In many cases, some components were produced in the customer country. The Mirage III family was eventually replaced by the more conventional Mirage F1 family but when the time came to replace the F1 in 1973, Dassault Aviation again went back to the delta wing configuration. FW-200 Condor Pitot Tube & AntennaPublished:
The Fw-200 was an all-metal four-engine airplane that was originally designed as an airliner. As war broke out, it was modified for use for long-range maritime patrol, reconnaissance and as an anti-shipping patrol bomber in addition to a transport. This airplane has been modeled twice in 1/72 scale by Revell but recently Trumpeter have added the airplane to their line-up. The Trumpeter kit is a great improvement on the Revell kits in both detail and accuracy but as always, Aires/Quickboost have found some areas to improve the kit. This set consists of replacements for the kit pitot tube and the radio antenna. The photo shows the two kit parts along with the sprue containing the two Quickboost parts.
