Special Hobby has provided this beautiful 2024 release of the First French Supersonic fighe the SMB2 Super Mystere, in 1/72 scale model.

  • Nine grey Sprues
  • One Clear Sprue
  • Three resin parts
  • Two Decal sheets
  • One Instruction guide

The detailed quality is excellent in every way with this kit; crisp and detailed molding. The kit can be built in two versions: one the French version and there other the IAI Sa’ar Honduran version. You need to decide which version before you start the building. I when with the version A – French Air Force May 1961.

The Assembly is quick and easy.

The assembly starts with the engine and jet pipes in stage 1 and 2. There are several ejection pin marks that need cleaning up.

The Cockpit is next at stage1 and 2 this was straight forward just watch for part C39 as it is a tight fit.

The stages 5 and 6 are easy.

Stage 7 and 8 is the assembly of the fuselage and internal parts. Special Hobby did forgot to mention adding nose weight at the stage. I also missed it. Lucky I added liquid Gravity to the nose of the drop tanks which was enough to stop it being a tail sitter.

Stage 9 and 10 is the main wings assembly and again no issues.

Stage 11 adds wings, tail etc. to the main fuselage. I must say that the wing to fuselage joins are a great design and add the assembly greatly.

Stage 12 and 13 add the under carriage and lower antenna to the fuselage. This again was very simple.

Stage 14 to 18 finishes the cockpit. Now this is where I would have like to see a Resin Seat not just one for the IAI version. As the French seat has no seat belts and none are provided.

The final construction stage is the drop tanks and weapons.

I was doing most of the painting during the build and just did a few minor parts.

Last we added the decals which were very good and adhered perfectly.

In conclusion this is an fantastic kit just needed a resin French seat with seat belts. I really enjoy building it.

Thanks go to Special Hobby for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
