For some reason, model manufacturers have been omitting pilot figures from their kits. Many aftermarket producers have stepped in to fill the pilot seat void. Czech model manufacturer Aerobonus has a new tool release (2023) in its 1/32 Modern NATO Fighter Pilots, which the instructions state can be used for all 30 NATO member states). Like most pilot figures being released recently, this figure is standing but can easily be made to sit with some razor saw surgery.

This pilot is one of five in the AeroBonus 1:32 Modern NATO Pilots:

With a plethora of modern NATO 1/32 fighters available on the market, this figure will help the model stand out while sitting on the tarmac. With five pilots in the series, each with five squadron patches (easily convertible to decals), the possibilities are endless.

I painted the pilot per the instructions with the exception of a red scarf. This is a well-molded and detailed pilot figure that will take a model to the next level when standing next to his aircraft. For some reason, the creators had the pilot’s left hand open, palm up, and his right hand expressing the almost universal sign language of “you’re number one/ go away!” His left hand looked weirdly empty, so I 3D printed a model Eurofighter to give the figure some context. Aerobonus is thoughtful and had correctly sized squadron patches on the painting guide, so I selected one and made a decal for his left shoulder patch.
