Guard Stand
Plusmodel is expanding their super line and branching out! This is good news. Along with their EASY Line of simple resin kits, they are starting to release all-wood kits. This is a fine example of the art. This is designed to represent a simple wooden guard stand. Wood is always handy, and making a guard stand to keep the guards dry is something every soldier looks forward to doing – staying dry!
The kit consists of nine small laser-cut wooden “sprues”. The rear and side supports are made of a single unit and thicker than the sides, floor, roof, and accessories. The three outside walls all have nail stud marks in them. The roof. However. is missing this feature. The instructions are a simple two-picture diagram and are pretty simple to follow.
The laser cutting process does have a drawback on the thicker pieces, however. It does burn the wood, leaving a black residue that comes off on your fingers and hands. It also needs to be carefully sanded from the parts for a more realistic appearance. There are a few instruction errors and an omission. These are easy fixes by looking at the pictures and the parts. The triangle supports (four pieces), all broke into unusable bits. The one drawback was that the two arch facings are not long enough to cover the entire front. All in all, this took about eight hours to construct. Something that I think is missing is a bench seat on the rear or side for the guard to relax on. There are plenty of leftover sprue pieces, making it simple to cut a simple seat and add it at the appropriate height.
When the item is finished, it looks great in its own right. However, there are some OOB options I thought of while building this. You could use it as a school bus stop, a water fountain cover, or as a cheap roadside shrine or shrine cover. This little stand has some great possibilities, and I would like to thank Plusmodel for designing, releasing, and offering it to IPMS/USA to review, and also IPMS/USA for allowing me the opportunity to review it. Grab one for yourself and see what you can come up with!
