Every year we have so many choices of calendars to choose from but finding the perfect calendar can be a challenge. With the Cross & Cockade 2023 calendar, you get a calendar with beautiful prints in a perfect size of 11.7” (300mm) x 8.3” (210mm) with spiral binding so each month stays flat to the wall.

The 2023 calendar starts with January 2023 with one month per page. Each page has a beautiful illustration of WWI aviation with monthly calendar below. Each illustration and artist is listed on the last page of the calendar. There is another listing of each artist with their web site or email address.

With each calendar sold, the proceeds go to help maintain the British Air Services memorial at St Oliver and this calendar typically sells out each year. The calendar is now bearing a new name “The Great War Aviation Society”. Their mission is to explore, preserve and share information on this fascinating period, to make sure the aircraft, pilots, ground crew and their sacrifices are never forgotten.

I highly recommend this calendar for both the aircraft portraits and helping to fund the maintenance at the British Air Services Memorial at St Omer. My only recommendation on the calendar’s layout is it would be nice to list the subject and artist below each illustration. I would like to thank Cross & Cockade and IPMS/USA for this calendar to review.

Reviewer Bio

David Horn

I have been building models since at least 8 years old and with a brief break after high school, model building started again late in college. My preferred subjects are aircraft of all eras and scales but a majority of my builds are 1/48 scale. I am the son of a USAF navigator who flew tactical airlift in Vietnam then his last 8 years he served at Altus AFB where he retired. My love of aircraft comes naturally and try to build subjects that I have a personal connection to. My day job parallels the hobby where I design full flight simulators ranging from small corporate jets, military fighter jets to the C-17. I hold a commercial pilot certificate and fly as a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol. I really enjoy flying cadets, passing on the love of flight and inspiring future aviators.
