Cross & Cockade, International (CCI) is best known for its excellent assortment of books and publications covering “The Great War” in the air. The artwork in these publications is of the highest caliber and the writing is superb.

CCI also provides calendars and IPMS has just received the 2016 version of this annual calendar. Each page features artwork by a list of artists who produce inspiring views of a moment in time. Certainly, the artists should be identified, and WWI aficionados will most certainly recognize their names.

In alphabetical order:

  • Ivan Berryman
  • Barry Barnes
  • Ron Cole
  • Roy Cross
  • Andrew Dillon
  • James Field
  • Terry Jones
  • Roger Middlebrook
  • Mark Postlewaite
  • Russell Smith
  • Simon Smith
  • Keith Woodcock

The calendar is 81/2 inches by 12 inches. The pages are “bound” on a set of small metal rings that allow for each month to be flipped to the reverse side, thus keeping the calendar together rather than having to remove each month’s page and discarding it. A small, sturdy mounting wire allows the calendar to be hung from a traditional picture hanger, a push pin, or a nail/screw head.

Now, here’s a thought. For those who build WWI models, the artwork for each month can be carefully cut out of the calendar and placed on a model display base, with the appropriate model being displayed on that base.

CCI donates the proceeds from the sale of this calendar to the British Air Services Memorial at St-Omer. One can check out this Memorial at http://www.webmatters.net/index.php?s=about

Thanks to Roger Tisdale and CCI for providing this calendar to IPMS/USA for review. This calendar is highly recommended due to the fact that the proceeds are used to honor the Airmen of WWI, and also the excellent quality of the artwork within the calendar.
