For those that have never heard of FOXBOT, they are a decal and mask manufacturer from the Ukraine and have a series of decals and masks in scales from 1/32 down to 1/144. They specialize in planes from their region such as MiG and Sukhoi but they do have markings for other planes such as B-25 and P-38’s. Needless to say, this company could use some support at this time. The set includes markings for four MiG-25RB’s of the Ukrainian Air Force:

This is a revised and updated edition of the book originally published in 2018. The book covers the most modern of fighter aircraft currently in use and development. It is divided into nineteen chapters.

The first six chapters of the book cover the development of Jet fighters after WWII along with advances in armament, the use of missiles attempting to replace dogfighting as well as avionics and radar improvements and the development of stealth technologies.

The next nine chapters are aircraft specific, each covering one of the types flying at time of publication. First up is the first of the fifth-generation fighters, the F-22 covering its successes and problems, including the issues with the environmental systems that led to pilots having issues after landing with memory loss and alertness. Next is the F-35 which is hoped to eventually replace the F-16 and A-10 as well as be more mass produced than the F-22.

This is volume 1 in a series. The book is by Dana Bell, well known author to modelers and historians alike for his work in aircraft colors. He is a retired researcher and Tech specialist for the NASM.

This volume covers the multitude of changes in the cockpits of Corsairs from the XF4U-1 through 1D built by Vought, The F3A-1 and 1A built by Brewster and those from theFG-1 to FG-1D built by Goodyear.

This book is a super-detailer’s dream. Changes in cockpit configuration are specified out by both contract and bureau number so you can detail out your specific build as accurately as you wish to.

This monograph is compilations of the 4-view colour profile, scale plans and photo details of the single variant of the McDonnel F-4B Phantom II Scale plans in 1/72 scale plus drawings from wartime technical manuals. Also photos of the details in B&W and color.

The book is primarily composed of ‘walk-around” type photos, with some inflight pictures as well. The scale plans are nicely done, and appear to be true to scale. The photos are an absolute must for anyone modeling this aircraft, which so many of us are in the stages of doing (Tamiya). Four of the photos are “owner’s manual” type diagram photos of the plane’s instrument panels with all components labeled. There are two similar ones specific to the Martin-Baker Mk. H7 ejection seat. Again, super helpful to the modeler whose eye is drawn to details.

Scale Aircraft Conversions provides is an excellent company that produces detailed, fine-quality white metal and resin parts, which are mostly drop-in replacements for scale aircraft kit landing gear parts.

The Bobcat Hobby Scale Models 1/48 Ilyushin IL-28 Beagle was released in 2019 with new tooling. It’s landing gear are pretty simple units with no additional assembly other than attaching the upper/lower torsion arms piece to the nose landing gear piece. CA glue works well for this.

Overall, this is a nice replacement set and will add nice strength and stability to the Bob 1/48 IL-28 Beagle kit.

Thank you to Scale Aircraft Conversions for supplying this sample, and thank you for IPMS for the privilege to review it.

Thank you Bill & Phil for all you do for the Reviewers!

The first in a new Kagero series (Club 1/48), author and modeler Sebastian Piechowiak presents his build log of ICM’s 1/48 Junkers Ju-88A-4 model. With text in both Polish & English, he describes his build in a step-by-step fashion. Obviously an accomplished and talented artist, the close-up photos are greatly appreciated, showing off his techniques and results, particularly in the cockpit/interior stages.

The ubiquitous M60 Main Battle Tank (MBT) is the second generation of American MBTs and the fourth to carry the Patton name (following the M46, M47 and M48 series). During my time in the Army, beginning in the mid-1990s in Germany, the M1 Abrams was in its ascendency, fresh from its victories in Operation Desert Storm. I never paid much attention to the M60 other than remembering how tall and old they looked in comparison to the Army’s new MBT.

TankCraft 37, M60 Main Battle Tank, America’s Cold War Warrior 1959-1997, (https://penandswordbooks.com/subject-categories/reference/m60.html) dramatically changed that perception of an old tank. Instead, the long, distinguished career of the M60 MBT is elegantly and logically described and illustrated over its illustrious life of over 40 years.

Yellow-Wings Decals

MSRP
$13.95

As one might guess from the company’s name, Yellow-Wings Decals specializes in decals for American military aircraft from the period when they sported some very colorful markings.

Sheet 48-044 titled: “USN OS2U Kingfisher, VO-1 USS Arizona BB-39, Inshore Patrol Squadron, Sitka Alaska” provides marking for two colorful Kingfishers. The sheet is intended for the Monogram Kingfisher 1/48th scale kit. The kit is no longer in production but is not expensive or hard to find on ebay or at swap-meets. The Yellow-Wings artwork recommends the “Kitty Hawk OS2U Kingfisher” but this is a 1/32nd scale kit and won’t work with these decals. The decal sheet provides enough markings to build two complete models: one from VO-1 of the USS Arizona, and one stationed in Sitka Alaska. The instructions include a list of recommended model paints to match the colors used on pre-war U.S. aircraft.

The Panzerkampfwagen IV (appropriately truncated to Pz.Kpfw. IV, Sonderkraftfarhrzeug 161, Sd.Kfz 161, or even better, the Panzer IV) was developed in 1937 with the Panzer IV Ausfuhrung (ausf) A, and was the most numerous produced tank in the German Army and Waffen SS in World War II. The Panzer IV had the ability to be upgunned and uparmored, allowing it to serve on equal terms with American and British tanks through the German surrender with the Panzer IV ausf J. After the war, Panzers continued to soldier on through at least the 1967 Six Day War, but that is a story for another review.
