Acrylic and Enamel Washes

Published:
Company: AMMO by Mig Jimenez

This is a downloadable user guide from AMMO, it is in pdf format and very interesting to look at. The guide can be found in the Downloads section at the top of the AMMO website.

There are ten pages to the guide and is designed to get a familiarization on the use of both Acrylic and Enamel washes.

The first part of the guide talks about what a wash is and what it is used for then goes into the differences of an Acrylic or Enamel wash. The guide shows that AMMO has an acrylic wash the same color as their Enamel washes. How to use the washes is the next section of the guide and why use acrylics.

This was a basic and quick review of the user guide because it is very easy to go to the website and see the guide for yourself.

Fuel Drums

Published:
Company: Hauler

Hauler is known as a supplier of high-quality detail parts for aircraft, as well as other subjects. Once painted the fuel barrels provide a very nice addition to any diorama.

Package Contents

2 sets of resin containing the fuel barrels, with each set containing 6 barrels.

Instructions

The barrels are molded in resin and there are no instructions contained or needed in the kit.

Painting

The first thing I did was to wash the resin barrels in soapy water to remove any residue that may be on the pieces.

I decided for ease of handling that I would leave the barrels on their resin sprue.

I started painting the barrels by first applying Stynlreyz, light gray. I then decided that I would “paint” the barrels with AK… more

M4A2 Sherman U.S. Marine Corps

Published:
Company: Italeri

History

This kit is a rerelease from an older one by Italeri. What has changed is the decal sheet. The kit is an easy build in one of four different versions, and I have chosen to model the Marine Corps Pelielu Island from August 1944.

In the Box

The contents of the kit are on five olive green styrene sprues. Also included in the box are a set of rubber tracks, a piece of plastic mesh for the deep wading tank screens, and decals for 4 schemes. There are evident sink marks throughout, mostly in places that would not be normally seen.

The kit instructions are a large booklet with 9 steps to complete the model. The ninth step shows assembly and application of the deep wading vents for one of the versions.

Nierstein and Oppenjeim 1945, Patton Bounces the Rhine

Published:
Book Author(s): Russ Rodgers
Company: Osprey Publishing

In January 1945, the collapse of the German front along the Siegfried Line led to a large-scale dissolution of German combat forces and capability. Pressed hard by Allied forces advancing eastward, German units often found themselves trapped west of the Rhine River. With his eye on history, US Lt. Gen. George S. Patton, Jr. was determined to be the first leader since Napoleon to make an assault crossing of the Rhine. The most logical crossing-place was at Mainz, as it served as a major railroad logistical link from west to east. However, Patton was aware that this would be obvious to the Germans, and therefore he and his staff made rapid plans for another site at Nierstein and Oppenheim, about 12 miles south of Mainz.

D400 Electric Pencil Sander

Published:
Company: David Union

John Miller, IPMS member and owner of Model Paint Solutions (modelpaintsol.com) has an electric pencil sander called the David 400 (D400) on his web site. The sander has a wall cord that plugs in the back of the sander, fits nicely in the hand, and is very comfortable to use.

When I first saw the tool, I thought why do I need an electric sander? I have an abundance of sanding tools already. It just so happened that I was working on the Airfix 1/72 scale Tiger Moth and had a very small area to sand under the horizontal stabilizer. With that small an area to be sanded and the delicate nature of the sanding that had to be done, I thought the D400 would have made the job a lot easier and faster.
