Vought Corsair Collection
The UK’s Fantasy Print Shop has released another set of 1/48 decals in their Euro Decals range, this one covering the F4U-1 and F4U-1A Corsair in US Navy, RNZAF and Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm service.
Seven options are offered on a single sheet. These are:
- F4U-1A Corsair, NZ5272/NZ5307, of No.1 Servicing Unit, Royal New Zealand Air Force, based at Henderson Field Guadalcanal, October 1944. Finished in Sea Blur front fuselage, wings and rudder, plus three-colour camouflage on the mid-rear fuselage.
- F4U-1 Corsair, Bu.No. 17590, flown by CAPT. A.R. Conant of VMF-215, US Marine Corps based at Torokina Air Base, Bougainville, January 1944. Finished in Blue Grey and Light Grey camouflage.
- F4U-1A K99, USMC, Finished in three colour camouflage.
- F4U-1A Corsair, SS11 / Sally of Service Squadron 11, US Marine Aircraft Group 11 US Marine Corps based at Espiritu Santos, Vanuatu Island, New Hebrides, 1945. Finished in overall Silver Dope with black anti-glare strip.
- Brewster F3A Corsair JS479, BH2/Q 718 Naval Air Squadron, Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm based at RNAS Ballyhalbert, Mid-1945. Finished in three colour camouflage.
- F4U-1 Corsair, Bu.No. 02310, 13 Viva! flown by 2nd Lt. Kenneth Ambrose Walsh of VMF-214 Wild Aces, US Marine Corps based at Henderson Field Guadalcanal, 28 May 1943. Finished in Blue Grey and Light Grey camouflage.
- Vought Corsair Mk.II, JJT260, P54, 757 Operations Training Unit, Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm based at Puttalam Ceylon. Finished in Dark Slate Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey upper surfaces and Sky below.
The same options are also offered in 1/32 on sheet ED32139.
The set includes full-colour instruction sheets with four-views for all options. The decals are nicely printed with a glossy finish; colour saturation appears to be excellent and the colours for the national markings appear to be very good. There are no stencils included, so those would need to be sourced from the base kit.
These decals will be suitable for any of the numerous Corsair kits on the market and can be recommended. My thanks to Fantasy Print Shop for the review sample.

FAA Corsair IV,
From my web site: Hobby Boss 1:48 FAA Corsair IV (with the interesting story of its pilot, killed on take-off from the escort carrier HMS Arbiter): https://www.heritagemodelaircraft.com/faa-corsair-iv-1-48
