Each issue of SAM follows a basic design and format. There are usually two Feature Articles, an Aviation in Profile piece, and a series of Compact Build Reviews. In this issue, the first Feature Article is by Marco Preto, who builds and reviews Meng’s Me-410B-2/U4 in 1/48th scale. This article is a must-read for anyone who is going to tackle the Meng kit, a kit that Mr. Preto highly recommends. Along with an outstanding set of images showing Marco’s kit in progress (and completed), he also provides a list of paints and weathering supplies that he used to the outstanding results one sees in the article.

The second Feature Article, on the Supermarine Attacker, was written by Assistant Editor Karl Robinson. Karl’s article highlights the paint selections he made to produce this tail dragger. Karl also indicates that the incredible results he obtained on the panel lines and seams were accomplished with MIG Productions Neutral Wash.

The Aviation in Profile article dovetails nicely with Karl’s article. Contributed by Tony Buttler, the Attacker article features a detailed history of the aircraft, accompanied by a number of black and white photographs of the aircraft in service.

Spliced into the same page space occupied by Tony’s work on the Attacker is a nicely illustrated fold-out section featuring the P-39. There are numerous profile drawings, in full color, as well as a set of 3-view drawings of the Q, D, F, and C variants of the P-39. Also shown is the P-400.

As is the case in each issue of SAM, there are a number of Compact Build Reviews.

• Shaun Schofield builds the 1/72nd scale Typhoon FGR.4 by Hasegawa. Of special note, Shaun describes how to remove canopy seams.
• Maxim Finchenko reviews the Great Wall Avro Vulcan in 1/144th scale. Maxim found the kit an excellent model and gave it a “highly recommended” grade.
• The RS Models 1/72nd Miles Magister was reviewed by Neil Pinchbeck. This 1/72nd scale kit was completed in Australian markings.
• Brian Wakeman did a spectacular job with the Hasegawa P-39 in 1/48th scale. Brian included a list including some aftermarket items he uses, a list of paints used, and also a list of weathering agents.
• Another model in 1/48th scale made this issue. Philippe Jamar reviewed the Eduard Fw-190. Detail images show the incredible amount of detail one finds in Eduard kits.
• The Airfix Spitfire PR.XIX in 1/48th scale got my attention immediately. I am on a Spitfire rampage lately and Chris Fleet’s review threw gas on that particular fire.
• For those who are interested in modern aircraft, Mark Elliot did an outstanding job building the Revell MQ-9 Reaper in 1/48th scale. Mark’s comments will be of great assistance to anyone building this rather unique model.
