Po-2 Landing Light and Venturi Tubes
Quickboost provides one landing light assembly, three large venturi tubes, and two small venturi tubes. Of note is the re-sealable packaging that Quickboost uses that makes the parts easy to review and then stuff securely back into the package. There are no supplied instructions; you simply swap out the kit provided plastic parts with the new Quickboost replacements. These Quickboost parts are specific replacements for the kit parts found in the ICM kits 48251 and ICM 48252, but for comparisons the photos also show the AZ Model kit parts, left to right respectively.
Quickboost has molded the venturi tubes perfectly in light grey resin with no apparent bubbles. The Quickboost venturi tubes provide no mold seams to sand off on these tiny parts, along with the superior detail for the inlets on both ends of the venturi tubes that would be difficult to replicate from the kit parts. The vacuum line on the large venturi tubes is also clearly superior to the kit parts.
The Quickboost landing light assembly is molded in clear resin. Again the comparison photos show from left to right, Quickboost, ICM, and AZ Model. The Quickboost part is essentially similar in shape and size to the ICM part, less the sink mark on the side of the housing for the ICM part. The AZ Model part is clearly shaped differently and smaller all around. I can’t say it is incorrect, but I have not been able to locate any photos showing the AZ Model’s part shape and size.
Be very careful removing the parts from the resin block. The Quickboost landing light housing in clear resin makes it difficult to see the difference between the part and the sprue. It would have been nice to see more of a distinction between the part and the sprue, but just go slowly and it should come out nice. The Quickboost venturi tubes will also need care in separation from their sprue as they are quite small and fragile. Although most paints will adhere to resin alone, I would recommend that you wash the parts to remove any remaining mold release and prime them first. The landing light and venturi tubes will need to be installed with your favorite CA (super glue) or epoxy, as the normal plastic glues or solvents will not react with the resin.
As always, check your reference photos for placement and alignment. Period photos show different placement of both the venturi tubes and the landing light.
Although this set is specifically for the ICM kits, these parts will also greatly enhance the older Gavia kits, 002 and 004/0600; the Eduard kit, ED 1112; and the new AZ Model (Admiral Models) kits, ADM 4807, ADM 4808.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to Quickboost and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review this set.
