Model Art Modeling Magazine is a Japanese publication that is released monthly. The text is mainly in Japanese with some English subtitles throughout. One quality about these magazines is the high quality of the photographs and the models that are used.

In this months magazine the feature article on probably one of the most daunting tasks that many modelers fear. Finishing models in natural metal finishes! This tends to send fear into the hearts of many modelers, including myself.

Model Art covers this subject in thirty seven pages using plastic models, actual pictures and paint examples with a mix of color and black and white photos. The models used are an F-86, T-33, C-46, H-21 and T-6. They use several different mediums to get the desired effect. The paint of choice for the article is Mr. Color and they use multiple colors and one color set, JASDF Aluminized Old-Timer Colors. The other medium that is used is a metal foil that is called Duralumin Finish.

Next is the continuing series on Modeling JASDF. In this issue they finish building the T-28B that they had been building over the past several months.

Following the Modelling JASDF is an arficle titled “Born in the 60’s”. There are two models that are used in this. The first is the Fine Molds 1/35th JGSDF Type 60 APC and the second is the Pit Road 1/700th JMSDF Defense Ship DE-211 Isuzu.

Next up is the “New Kit Review”. This month they review the Dragon 1/35th IJA Type 95 Light Tank “Ha-Go” Early Production, Tamiya 1/35th M1A2 SEP Abrams Tusk II, Revell 1/32nd Heinkel He 219 A-7 “UHU”, Meng 1/72nd G.91R Light Fighter Bomber, AZ Model 1/72nd Kugisho D4Y-1/1C “Judy” Suisei 11, Kitty Hawk 1/48 Sepecat Jaguar A and the Fujimi 1/20th Ferrari F2012 Malaysia GP.

This months Neo Historic Garage Features the Fujimi 1/24th Toyota 3000 GT Supra Turbo A. This segment is run every month and highlights a vehicle from the eighties.

The rest of the issue covers new releases of kits aftermarket and decals. One small article concludes the issue and this is coverage of the JMC. What is JMC? It is the Joyful Modelers Convention of Hasegawa. From the pictures it appears that the models entered in this contest were only manufactured by Hasegawa. An interesting note is that they show pictures of several entrants and there is almost a fifty fifty split between male and female modelers. Just an interesting demographic that I noticed.

Even though the majority of the print is in Japanese, I still find this magazine a wealth of modeling information due to the great photography.

I would like to thank Model Art Magazine and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review this product.
