Dash Two decals was founded in 2005 by a long-time plastic modeler who had a hard time finding markings he was interested in. The only way to get the markings nobody else would make is to learn how to take the plunge and learn the process, starting with creating vector artwork. I cannot say who the printer(s) are for the water slide decals, but they are names well respected and known to the scale modeling community.

Packaged in a large sleeve (letter-size sheet), four-page full-color instruction sheet, one cram-packed decal sheet, and a single small additional sheet with “505” slanted markings. The 4-page, full-color instructions are very well laid out, showing locations of decals as well as key comments unique to certain aircraft. As simple as the colors are on Growlers, the paint callouts refer to Federal Standard (now AMS) instead of a specific paint brand, which I prefer.

There are markings for six different aircraft (VAQ-130 (2), VAQ-133(2), VAQ-141, VAQ-144) and enough common markings to make two of the six aircraft. The sheet includes unique details as well as stencils, which is really nice and comprehensive. One of the markings is dedicated to “Zapper 12” which crashed in 2024, in which both aircrews lost their lives. This respect and remembrance for aircrews lost being covered on a decal sheet really hits home for me.

The decals are very crisp, with no “off-register” issues and very minimal carrier film.

With many decal companies making very colorful and flashy decals, it is nice to see markings for the “everyday” line jets for a change. Currently, the two scales being offered are 1/48 and 1/32, but Dash Two is just in the starting gate. I highly recommend these decals for your next large-scale Growler. I would like to thank Dash Two Decals and IPMS/USA for this set to review.

Reviewer Bio

David Horn

I have been building models since at least 8 years old and with a brief break after high school, model building started again late in college. My preferred subjects are aircraft of all eras and scales but a majority of my builds are 1/48 scale. I am the son of a USAF navigator who flew tactical airlift in Vietnam then his last 8 years he served at Altus AFB where he retired. My love of aircraft comes naturally and try to build subjects that I have a personal connection to. My day job parallels the hobby where I design full flight simulators ranging from small corporate jets, military fighter jets to the C-17. I hold a commercial pilot certificate and fly as a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol. I really enjoy flying cadets, passing on the love of flight and inspiring future aviators.
