This newest release derives originally from the 2018 release (#35101) and the kit is a combination of two of last year’s releases from ICM—the Krankenwagen kit (#35113) and the Military Medical Personnel figures set (#35620). The well-crafted instruction manual starts with an extensive parts map with unneeded parts highlighted in color and there are quite a few including all the clear parts and the weapons which would not be ideal for medical folks. The kit comes in ICM’s typical box art cover that slips over the front closing hinged cardboard box. Inside are six sprues of gray styrene, a clear sprue, two vinyl tires and sets of vinyl tracks, and a decal sheet featuring two schemes.

Construction starts as usual with the lower hull tub and chassis, side stowage boxes, and suspension and steering linkages. The fit is quite good as all these parts get added. I always try to be very careful that everything is squared up, so all my wheels and tracks are touching and there were no issues here. The engine assembles next and there are color callout codes for the different parts. It builds into a nice little assembly and is added to the vehicle, along with the instrument panel and exhaust. The interior parts are added next- seats, steering wheel, gas mask canisters, stretchers, and such. The top half is then worked on—with all the vision slits covering the glass parts, the engine covers on the hood, and the interior details to the hatches and vision ports. The engine covers do not fit flush as my photos show- they are meant to be left open I assume despite sink marks on the interior faces and no detail. After a rolled-up stretcher and some internal braces are added, the top and bottom halves are brought together.

Next up are the rear doors which are challenging to fit and a mess of road wheels. I had one of the suspension arms break on a set of wheels which made fitting the tracks to that side tricky. These went together alright otherwise and were followed by fitting tools and jerry cans and racks to the sides and rear end.

The kit also comes with three sprues for the medical team- one large one for all four figures and two excellent sprues for weapons and gear. You won’t use most of these for this build, but they are an excellent addition to the spare box. The fit for the figures was pretty good and the facial expressions are unique for each. The patient has a bandaged hand and leg and one of the team is holding up an IV bottle for his arm.

Painting and Weathering

The two schemes include a dark yellow one based in North Africa and a dark grey one for the Eastern Front. The figures aren’t necessarily fitted for desert gear, but I love doing DAK schemes so went with that. I used AMMO Panzer Putty to make off the two-toned scheme and applied the decals. Weathering was a custom desert pigment mix along with washes from AMMO and Citadel. I decided to place the figures and halftrack on a desert foam base and dug out an old Armand Bayardi column. The base is still not done but I wanted to get the review out for the vehicle and figures. Thanks go to ICM and IPMS/USA for this review sample!
