A.M.D.G. Decals has now set its sights on the Republic P-47D Thunderbolt…releasing two new decal sets for Razorback and Bubbletop versions. The first, A48-005, provides markings for four P-47Ds from four different fighter groups flying in the European theater…and they provide everything needed in this set to decal each of the subjects. When I say everything, I do mean everything. The set includes two decal sheets and both are packed with about as much as possible. Check out the photo below to verify that.

Also, as the photos below show, the fold out instruction sheet and supplement that are included demonstrate how complete this set is. They are printed on both sides and not only provide full-color profile and plan view illustrations for each subject covered in the set with very comprehensive painting guidelines, but also provide guidelines for painting invasion stripes and include specific details about each aircraft along with considerable historical information about the plane and its pilot, unit, location and date. Added to this are photo-references notes and kit recommendations.

The decals are printed on thin film. Colors are vivid and opaque, images are precise and everything is well registered. Some of the multi-color markings are provided in separate decals to be layered for perfect alignment. All of the markings are clearly identified with numbers that coincide with those on the instruction sheet for accurate placement.

The set provides markings for the following:

  • P-47D-15-RE s/n: ??-5751, a Razorback flown by a variety of squadron pilots, 526th FS/86th FG, at Poretta, Corsica, (July-September, 1944)
  • P-47D-25-RE s/n: 42-26671, Bubbletop ‘No Guts - No Glor’y, flown by Capt. Benjamin I. Mayo, 82ndFS/78th FG, at Duxford, UK (June, 1944)
  • P-47D-25-RE s/n: 42-26649, Bubbletop ‘Miss Carriage’, flown by Lt. Amos Bomberger II, 361th FS/356th FG, at Martelsham Heath, UK (November 1944)
  • P-47D-28-RE s/n: 44-19879, Bubbletop ‘Homesick Angel’, flown by Capt. Robert E. Winters, 62nd FS/56th FG, at Boxted, UK (March, 1945)

Currently, A.M.D.G. Decals are available in 1:48 scale only. But owner Michal Adamczyk advises they plan to eventually release sets in other popular scales also.

A.M.D.G. Decals can be ordered directly from the manufacturer or purchased from multiple retailers that are listed on the A.M.D.G. Decals website:

This set is highly recommended. My thanks to A.M.D.G. Decals for providing the review sample and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review it.
