Curtiss P-40, 1941-42 55th Pursuit Squadron, 20th Pursuit Group
Yellow Wings has dedicated itself to US markings during the period from 1930 to 1945 and makes decals specific to that time frame. Many do actually have the beautiful yellow wings from that time period also! This release covers the Curtiss P-40 and specifically between 1941 and 1942 for the 20th Pursuit Group and the commanders aircraft in 1/32nd scale. Markings are included for three aircraft:
- 33rd Pursuit Squadron, 1940-41, Langley Field, VA
- 36th Pursuit Squadron, 1940-41 Langley Field, VA
- 55th Pursuit Squadron, 1940-41, Hamilton Field, CA
The recommended kit is the Trumpeter P-40 and the decals are printed by Microscale which is always good to hear. All three planes share the colorful red/white striped tails. Complete sets of markings including national insignia are included for all three planes. The decals are, as you expect from Microscale, perfectly in register with wonderful color. Also included in the set are color call-outs for the time period involved, decal application instructions and general directions for planes of this period.
Typically, many of the P-40’s were olive drab and neutral gray combination and this set gives you the markings to jazz that up with colorful tail and squadron markings. And Microscale decals apply well so this is another great set from Yellow Wings and is highly recommended.
My thanks to Yellow Wings and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review this set of markings.
