The Tomcat has to be one of the most famous aircraft of the Navy. Thanks to movies like ‘Top Gun’ and ‘The Final Countdown’ the shape of the large fighter is ingrained in history. What isn’t as well known is that the cat changed its spots late in its service. No longer the pure fleet fighter, but relegated to the role of fighter bomber. It actually excelled in this role as the F-14D Bombcat. The aircraft was capable of carrying every form of bomb and missile that the Navy had at its disposal. That is where this sheet comes into its own.
Designed for any F-14D Bombcat kit, this sheet is a wealth of marking options. The instructions and decals are contained in a large ziplock bag. Inside you get three pages of full color instructions. What is really interesting is that Furball gives you not just the live ordnance markings, but the markings for inert practice bombs and missiles as well. The instructions are very clear on what goes where and how it should be displayed. Color call-outs are given on every page for every weapons system. Furball also gives you a station by station breakdown where the armament could go. Besides all the markings for missiles and bombs, the sheet also includes markings for the TARPS pods and other targeting systems. Bottom line: this is EVERYTHING you will need to put markings on anything that could fit under the wing of the Bombcat or any other Navy type.
So we know about the instructions, but what about the decals themselves? Well they are drawn by Furball with the help of Jim Rotramel and Gerry Whiteside, so you know they are accurate. They are printed by Cartograf, so you know they are the world’s best decals. They are thin, in register, and with perfect color saturation. They will react well with whatever setting solution you can throw at them, or at least the ones I’ve used. Besides the normal colors, these decals also feature metalic silver markings. Everything looks impressive. The decals are broken down into the different type of missiles or bombs, so finding your decals is easy. There are enough to do one airplane’s compliment of armament.
So we have world class artwork, excellent drawings of the decals, world class decals by Catograf. This is a complete package. Another great offering from Furball. If you have an F-14D Bombcat then you’ll want this decal set.
