The Weekend Editions and the Overtree editions of Eduard’s kits are really good value for the money. One thing that I’d like to add to mine is the photo etch instrument panel and some other bits and bobs. Lucky for me Eduard answers those prayers, sort of.

If you’ve never heard of the LEPT sets they are smaller pre-painted photo etch frets and have what I think are the ‘essential’ photo etch items. They are only available through the Eduard website. The reason I said sort of earlier is that these sets are typically only available for a limited time to accompany the Overtree kits when they are released. After that you have to buy the complete PE set for the kit, which while having more items, may contain things that you may not want to use. Then of course you may want to, but this fret is the essential items and included in those full PE sets.

In my opinion, the essential items on the Bf-109 are the instrument panel, seat belts, trim wheels, access panels, oil coolers, exhaust deflectors and the like. All the things on the fret are things that make sense to do in photo etch for scale thickness.

On this fret, most of the items are for the cockpit, such as the instrument panel, seat belts and shoulder harnesses, circuit breaker items, rudder pedals, and trim wheels. This adds lots of detail to the cockpit.

When it comes to the rest of the airframe there are oil coolers for all the radiators, access panel for the belly, sand filters with mounts and exhaust deflectors. All in all, a very complete set. All these items are best represented in photo etch for scale thickness.

Like the Overtree kits, these frets are only available for a limited time so for $10 you can get all the photo etch you need for your Overtree or Weekend Edition kit. If you like your 109s like I like them, you will definitely need to pick up some of these sets as they are released. I picked up a few and wish I had picked up more. Just an FYI, the Bf-109G-2 set looks remarkably like the G-5 and G-6 set, so stock up while you can. I really think this is an essential set for the Eduard G-2 Overtree kit.

Highly recommended

Thanks to Eduard and IPMS/USA for the review copy. You can only obtain your copy by contacting Eduard at www.eduard.com . These sets are not available any other way.
