BCATP Ansons
Illiad Design continues to expand its line of 1/48 scale decals, this time with a set of markings for the Avro Anson. The decals were designed for the recent Airfix model
This decal sheet covers 6 airframes from the BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). All markings cover airframes that saw service in Canada: Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan.
Some of the airframes are in camouflage of Dark Earth and Dark Green with lowers in Sky, plus some high visibility markings in yellow, others are fully painted in yellow and there is everything in between (yellow bottom and camouflaged tops, yellow bottoms, and partially camouflaged tops, etc).
The instructions are very clear on what camouflage scheme to apply for each aiframe with top and port side views. If there is a difference between the port/starboard profiles, it is described in the instructions. One thing to consider is that the decals and instructions have no numbers to identify the decal, however it is very obvious from the instructions which decal goes where.
The decal sheet is very glossy, and the decals look thin. The register is perfect. Opacity is likely to be good too, but I have not tried them in a model. You might want to test that using a spare decal.
A really nice thing about this sheet is that you are provided with enough decals to model at least 3 of the aircraft, assuming you use the national markings and stencils from the original decal sheet in the box.
Recommended.
I would like to thank Illiad Design and IPMS/USA for the review sample.
