155mm M-107 HE Type Side Backpack
Pig Models, based in Taiwan, was established in 2016 with a commitment to providing interesting model kits. I first became aware of the company with their release of their 1/1 scale German Tiger II 8.8cm Pzgr.39/43 (APCBC-HE) L71 Shell Replica [Kit # 1-002]. They have also released 1/1 scale variants, 8.8cm Pzgr.39 (APCBC) L/56 Shell Replica [Kit # 1-001] and 8.8cm Sprgr. 43 (HE) kwk43 L71 Shell Replica [Kit# 1-004]. Since then, Pig Models have released another dozen unique and interesting kits.
The M-107 is a 155mm High Explosive [HE] projectile. It was developed from the French Schneider 155mm projectile for the Model 1917 Howitzer and was the standard projectile for the US Army and US Marine Corps 155mm howitzers. It continues to be used by many countries as it is relatively low cost and easily available. The M-107 can be fired over 10 miles downrange and will produce approximately 1,950 fragments upon detonation. The M-107 consists of a hollow steel shell containing either TNT or Composition B and weighs 95 pounds.
This product is a Nylon Side Backpack with the markings of a 155mm M-107 HE grenade. The overall length is about 606.81mm with a bottom diameter of about 155mm. The top of the backpack has a yellow strap that can be used to hang from hooks or doorknobs. The primary compartment can be accessed from either side with two zippers per side. This compartment has two additional pockets: one on the flap [11cm wide] that is secured with Velcro and a second [27cm wide] in the body of the compartment that is a mesh pocket secured with Velcro to hold larger items. The top of the pouch is sealed with Velcro. A reinforced strap at the bottom of the primary compartment access flap holds 3 āDā Rings to allow additional equipment to be secured. This backpack is made to be worn with the strap over one shoulder. This strap is fully adjustable and has a quick release. It features internal pockets to keep items safe, especially critical modeling tools and refreshments. The backpack is fabricated from 1680-dernier nylon.
The photographs attached show the backpack loaded up with a clear paintbrush storage case, a Pilot Replicas 1/48 de Havilland J 28 Vampire, a Pit Road 1/144 SAAB J 35J Draken dual kit, a 500ml Coca-Cola, a large folding pocketknife, and a Luxx Pro LED flashlight hanging from a D-Ring. All that, and there is still plenty of space left.
My thanks to Pig Models and IPMS/USA for the chance to review this interesting accessory. It was certainly a hit at the local club meetings.
Highly Recommended !
