Model Building Guide #11 Lockheed P-38H Lightning Reference Gallery

Published:
Book Author(s): Richard Marmo
Company: Scale Publications

This 50-page reference document presents a nice pictorial history of the P-38H in the Pacific theater of WWII. While all but two of the photographs are black & white, this shouldn’t be a problem for modelers trying to duplicate the color scheme since all those shown were olive drab over gray.

This e-document allows a reader to navigate from a thumbnail list at the front or scroll through full-size photographs. The photos reveal the irregularities of the camo painting, the painted-on number designations, and general weather-beaten condition of the Lightnings in the Pacific. While the author admits the variable quality of the photos due to wartime limitations, there are some sharp, up-close ground and mid-air shots of the plane from various angles.

The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter – A Comprehensive Guide

Published:
Book Author(s): Andy Evans
Company: SAM Publications

This title is No. 36 in the MDF series of aircraft guidebooks issued by SAM Publications. It is an 8-1/4 inch by 11-5/8 inch, 184-page heavy paperback book printed on high-quality glossy paper. The beauty of this book easily lies in its many photographs, both black and white and color, of the “Missile With a Man In It”, the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. Whether a modeler or not, if you like looking at pictures of the Starfighter, you will like this book. Photos of the plane abound from the Glossary through the Appendices.

This volume contains much if not more of what a modeler should expect. The book’s Contents and examples of several pages are attached herewith. While there are a number of typos and a few errors listed in the Errata below, many that would annoy a proofreader… more

FLEX-I-FILE #7000 "TOUCH-N-FLOW" System

Published:
Company: Flex-I-File

The Flex-I-File “Touch-N-Flow” (Photo 1) is the ultimate capillary action gluing system. Nothing else I know can get cement into hard to reach spots with such accuracy. It enables a modeler to put solvent cement exactly where needed, with very little chance of missing the target and marring an outside surface.

The #7000 system is composed of three components (Photo 2): A bottle of thin Plast-I-Weld solvent cement, a squeeze bottle, the Touch-N-Flow applicator, along with an instruction sheet. The Touch-N-Flow is a thin glass tube with a very fine needle applicator at one end. The squeeze bottle is used to pull the thin solvent cement up into the tube. Once the cement is in the applicator, a touch of the end of the needle releases cement.

Italeri’s new multi-media Alfa Romeo 2300 8C “Monza” race car kit comes in an impressive box measuring 22” x 11” x 4-1/2” (Photo 1). An illustration of the box contents is shown on one of the box lid flaps (Photo 2). Upon opening the box, you find a 28-page instruction booklet, four plastic bags containing 10 styrene sprues, including duplicates of the “D” and “G” sprues, two bags of hardware with various sized screws and nuts, a decal sheet, masking sheet, steel photoetch sheet, nylon mesh sheet, rubber tires, copper wire, rope and rubber tubing (Photo 3). The kit offers using either masks or decals for the No. 28 race car driven by the famous Italian driver Tazio Nuvolari, a nice feature. To try both for the purpose of this build review, I masked the radiator No. 28… more
