David Horn

I have been building models since at least 8 years old and with a brief break after high school, model building started again late in college. My preferred subjects are aircraft of all eras and scales but a majority of my builds are 1/48 scale. I am the son of a USAF navigator who flew tactical airlift in Vietnam then his last 8 years he served at Altus AFB where he retired. My love of aircraft comes naturally and try to build subjects that I have a personal connection to. My day job parallels the hobby where I design full flight simulators ranging from small corporate jets, military fighter jets to the C-17. I hold a commercial pilot certificate and fly as a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol. I really enjoy flying cadets, passing on the love of flight and inspiring future aviators.

Aircraft and History

The Grumman E-2C Hawkeye is an airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft whose mission is similar to the USAF E-3 AWACS but it is much smaller in size and focuses on naval fleet defense. Compact in size, the Hawkeye is a twin engine (powered by the same engines used on the C-130), high wing aircraft that can operate from an aircraft carrier. Operated with a crew of five; pilot, copilot, radar officer, combat info officer, and aircraft control officer, the crew becomes the “eye” of the fleet.

The E-2 was developed in the late 1950’s as a replacement for the Grumman E-1 Tracer. A first for the AEW aircraft, the E-2A was developed from the beginning for its role as opposed to an existing aircraft modified for AEW duties. The E-2 made its first flight on… more

This resin set comes in a sturdy cardboard box containing a left and right forward section of the landing gear sponson. Each of the two castings with crisp mold lines along with substantial cast block attached which are easily removed. F-5 Tiger II "Freedom Fighter" (shark nose versions) - F-5 E, F - Pitot Tube and 20mm Gun Barrels

Published:
Company: Master Model

Packaged in a thin, heat sealed pouch with five turned parts, two gun barrels, two different sized plugs (ballast) and one pitot tube. Compared to parts in the new F-5E from Kitty Hawk kit, the Master parts are very fine, detail is the finest I have ever seen, and directions are very clear and easy to follow. The gun barrels are very precise and retain concentricity where the kit parts seem thick and may appear warped. You get a choice of installing the two gun barrels or using a solid “rod” (two sizes) that replaces one gun barrel. I believe this is a ballast for when a gun is not installed. I am unable to find information as if this has any other function than as a ballast. The pitot tube is a direct replacement for the Kitty Hawk and Hasegawa F-5 kits with a shark nose
