ICM has released a kit of a Vickers Machine Gun in 35th scale. The kit includes 21 parts, and that includes two versions of the body of the machine gun. One version has the water jacket molded onto the barrel cylinder, and the other version does not have the water jacket in place. An ammo can, consisting of three parts, is included. The lid on the ammo can is molded in the open position so that the ammo belt attached to the machine gun can then have its other end attached to the ammo inside the ammo can, giving the finished project the appearance of being loaded and ready for use. If one is using the barrel with the water jacket, there is a container representing the water can that consists of 5 parts. There is no “hose” part to connect the water container to the water jacket. The lack of a water hose is not a problem. That part can be made by stretching sprue, allowing the builder the flexibility to place the water container and gun as desired when building a diorama.

This book provides detail photographs of the C-130 cargo workhorse and its variants.

The C-130 was the product of the US Air forces 1951 requirement for a tactical airlift aircraft capable of carrying 25,000 pounds of cargo for 1,100 miles. The winning proposal was that of Lockheed Martin that built the prototype YC-130A to start the long and impressive career of the Hercules!

I found the photos and information in this book to be fascinating and many of the photos are ones not available anywhere else. All major variations are covered in the photos and you see a lot of in-action shots.

These photos can be indispensable for any modeler building iconic aircraft. Each photo has a great description of what is in the picture, where, and when.

Aires Aero-Bonus has done an excellent job with this kit. The figure consists of a head, two arms, and a body. The figure is easy to remove from the resin runner. A small saw will make that task fair easy. Some small amount of sanding will be necessary in order to attach the arms to the body. Figure painters have taught me to drill a hole in the heel of a boot and to insert a wire in order to hold the figure steady while painting. In this case, I was unable to place the hole in a boot heel. Instead I drilled the hole downward through the point at which the head will be attached to the body. With some careful sanding, the lower arms fit nicely onto the upper arm, which is molded onto the body. It is a simple chore to remove the small seams, if any appear at all, and with the arms in place the figure is ready to paint.

The second of eighteen different designs for an assault tank to break through enemy defensive lines. The designs were completed by May 15, 1943. No prototypes were built, but the project helped to set the stage for another heavy assault tank, the A39 Tortoise.

The kit comes in a sturdy flip top box with the computer created illustration of the model on the top. The parts come in several bags to keep everything, more or less, protected when shipped.

Italeri has released a brand new mold kit for “Italian Tanks” that can be used for wargaming or as a nice break from more complex builds.

In the cover of the box you have both a medium tank and a self-propelled artillery. Be aware that the parts in the kit only allows you to build one. Or if you are a bit creative, to have an interchangeable top and being able to display it as one or the other.

Being a brand new mold, the surface finish is excellent and there is no flash anywhere. Being oriented towards wargaming, some of the details might be simplified (like the whole running gear is a single piece) but that adds to the straight and easy assembly component of this kit.

MMP continues its “Single” series of books with no. 18, the Lockheed P-38G-15-LO Lightning. As you can see by the title, this is a very specific version of this plane and this book only covers that variant. There is no coverage of the H or J version of the P-38, just the one listed. This is also one of the versions covered in the new Tamiya 1/48th P-38.

Let’s look in the book- it is only contains 24 pages but they are packed with scale line drawings in 1/72nd scale with plan views and cross sections for the main fuselage as well as the tail booms. This is followed by operations photos in several WWII theaters of operation. There are detail drawings of the cockpit bays, landing gear, boarding ladder and engines. Exploded views of most parts are included so the reader can see how things go together. There are plenty of details so that a scratch builder or detailer has plenty to work with for landing gear and cockpit.

The Audi R8 GT3 is a mid-mounted V10 engine sports car produced by Audi to compete in the GT3 touring car racing series. This series is based on a vehicle that must be available for sale to regular consumers with minimal changes. Due to the low cost for entry to the GT3 race series, many teams have taken part and the Audi R8 LMS GT3 version has been delivered to many racing teams around the world. It is very active in both endurance and GT races. This new kit from PLATZ reproduces the AUDI R8 LMS GT3 from the 24-hour Spa race in 2015 in 1/24 scale. My example also included the Detail Up set specifically for this kit from NuNu.
