SM.02 S-65 City Tractor features a civilian-based project created from the excellent 1/35 Trumpeter Stalinetz S-65 Russian Army tractor kit, with a finish that is designed to explore other realms of possibilities. This model will illustrate how a city owned operation might have utilized this one-time military tractor. The finish was heavily influenced by the many worn-out city tractors seen in the great Pacific Northwest.

6.5" x 7.5", 128-page softcover, perfect bound, uniquely designed uncoated Linen cover stock. Interior pages are the same high-quality paper stock as the TANKART books, which helps to create a stylish and cool presentation with tons of character.

In the Book

If you are interested in building painting and weathering something other than a military vehicle, this book is about a tractor and all the different layers of painting and weathering involved with the process.

This is the third volume of Phoenix Scale Publications Real to Replica series and focuses on “Wild Weasel” and other air defense suppression and electronic warfare aircraft.

While the suppression of enemy air defenses probably started as soon as ground forces realized they could shoot back at the aircraft that were bombing or harassing them, it did not really come into its own until the Vietnam war. In order to combat the ever increasingly sophisticated and deadly air defenses over North Vietnam, the United States Air Force created the “Wild Weasel” program. The United States Navy also realized that there was a need to address this problem but took a slightly different approach initially.

History

The Messerschmitt Me 309 was a prototype German fighter, designed in the early years of World War II to replace the Bf 109. Although it had many advanced features, the Me 309's performance left much to be desired and it had so many problems that the project was canceled with only four prototypes built. The Me 309 was one of two failed Messerschmitt projects intended to replace the aging Bf 109, the other being the Me 209 of 1943.

The Me 309 project began in mid-1940, just as the Bf 109 was having its first encounters with the Spitfire in the Battle of Britain, the first aircraft to match the 109 in speed and performance. Already, Messerschmitt anticipated the need for an improved design to replace the Bf 109. The Reich Air Ministry, however, did not feel the same urgency, with the project given a low priority, resulting in the design not being finalized until the end of 1941.

The book is part of the After the Battle series and was written by Jean Paul Pallud. The Desert War covers the North Africa campaigns of WWII from June 1940 till the allied victory in May 1943, and the German Infantry and Artillery from 1939 to the end of the war. The book covers all the action and has pictures of the locations during WWII and present day as a comparison.

I really wanted to review this book as my Father served in the Royal Tank Corp in North Africa from 1942 till the end of the North Africa campaign, then shipped to Italy. This subject was close to my heart and my passion for this era.

Picking it up, the book is big and impressive. The detail in the book is incredible and covers the whole period in concise and organized fashion. The photos from the actual time of the events compared to the present really draw you into this book, and I could not put it down!

T-14 Armata (Armament) was supposed to be the new top dog of all tanks. Designed in 2014, the new Object 148 rolled out on the parade field in May 2015. During rehearsals one of the tanks stopped moving (quite the embarrassment in front of the cameras) and it took a whole 15 minutes before it, once again, started moving. Here it is, 2022, no more than 20 tanks have been produced and may have had it's production stopped because of sanctions due to the current war.

Trumpeter Models has put out their version of the T-14 Armata this year (2022) and it looks like a little jewel. It only has five steps to complete this model, and, due to the pre-built tracks, pretty easy to put together.

I started out by painting the whole model on the sprues, but this caused a problem, none of the holes for the track, antennas, or track shields would fit. Live and learn. Other than that, everything else worked out just fine.

Value Gear Details, based in Flagstaff, Arizona, produces a wide range of high-quality resin accessories for most common model scales. Many of the accessories and stowage sets are universal, which is a nice advantage. The set featured in this review has 14 pieces molded in gray resin. There are 10 rolls of different sizes and four crates. Also available in this scale are sets Crates #1 Sci-Fi Style, Crates # 2 Traditional Military Style, Tarp Rolls & Crate Stowage Bits #1, Tarp Rolls & Crate Stowage Bits #3, and Tarp Rolls & Crate Stowage Bits #4.

Clean-up is minimal. I removed the miniscule amount of flash by running a hobby knife along the bottom edge. Next, I soaked the pieces in a mild detergent solution and left them to air dry. This recommended step ensures that all mold release is removed. I then primed them using Tamiya Fine Surface Primer.

The Channel Islands are an archipelago in the English Channel off the western French coast of Normandy’s Cotentin Peninsula, composed of two Crown Dependencies – the Bailiwicks of Jersey (the largest of the islands) and Guernsey, which consists of the islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm and some smaller islands. Historically, they are considered remnants of the Duchy of Normandy, and administered separately since the late 13th century.
