IPMS/USA again thanks the Eduard team for sending us more of their prolific output targeted toward improving already great kits. Thanks to Phil and John for obtaining the sets for the team…

This set is an upgrade to the 2018 release of the new-mold Airfix 1/72 Wellington 1a/c. Consisting of three parts, it is the two main wheel/tires as one part each, and the single-part tail wheel strut and wheel/tire assembly, and a masking set for same. On the kit the main wheels are split into two halves per old-school molding, which the resin items dispense with, having a casting block on the ground section of the tire. .

I rattle-can painted the parts with Rustoleum Flat black automotive primer, then used the masks to protect the tires. A tooth pick/cocktail stick was used to push the mask into the tire bead area, and I then sprayed the wheels with Tamiya bare-metal silver. Mask removal demonstrated perfectly-round painted wheels! Where I had one mis-alignment of the mask due to operator error, a bit of 00 brush flat black wash touch-up and I was finished with the main wheels.

The tail wheel assembly was also sprayed overall bare-metal silver, then the same 00 Brush used to paint the tire, with a thin wash added to fill the tire bead area around the wheel rim. This completed this upgrade part.

Overall about the simplest part of the Wellington project; I was impressed how well the masking worked, and have decided they greatly improve my performance of a clean, crisp edge on the wheels.

HIGHLY recommended by this reviewer, and once again the pictures tell the complete story; The usual high praise and full marks to Eduard for listening to those of us who build and clamor for detail, and providing us opportunity to make more bank runs.…also thanks again to Phil for forwarding and John approving my working these sets.
