Osprey is a publishing house in the United Kingdom. This book at the time of this review is slated for an October 20, 2015 release date but from what I have read and see history buffs and modelers alike will not be disappointed. It is packed with useful information and illustrations covering every era of warfare and the uniforms and clothing that was used in those conflicts.

For this book the chapters are organized as follows:

  • Introduction
  • The Ancient World
  • The Medieval World
  • Early Modern Warfare
  • Imperial Wars
  • 19th Century Wars
  • World War I
  • World War II
  • Modern Warfare ( 1945-to present day)
  • About the artists

The book is illustrated with nonstop descriptive paintings of the men and uniforms that are listed above. I especially appreciated the knowledge breakdown and how they kept all periods covered in just the important information. From a knowledge standpoint this could be a life saver for a history student of all grade levels and people just wanting to broaden their horizons in the education department.

The book was written by Martin Windrow renowned historian and author of the book, “The Last Valley” which was written about the battle of Dien Bien Phu during the French intervention of Indo-China. Artists, this book is jam-packed with talent from the get-go and included a large assortment of artists and historians who have all contributed to Osprey's success on multiple occasions and help solidify them as a top military history publications company. I could not name them all but know that 28 artist help make this book possible, many thanks to all of you. I certainly notice the effort that was put into this.

Bottom line, if you want a great publication that is small and compact but packed with bang for your buck you cannot go wrong with this book, I highly recommend to all.

My thanks to IPMS for getting such great items for us to review and Osprey Publishing for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
