This book contains 88 pages, 62 b/w photos, 39 color photos, 16 color profiles, 1 color map, 4 diagrams, and 12 tables. It covers the war plans, policy, manufacturers, and SAC from 1945 to 1990. This is done in two chapters.

The world post WWII presented many challenges for the USAAC/USAF. The need to carry atomic weapons and to deliver them deep into the Soviet Union in time of war was paramount! This book is broken down into two chapters. The first takes up 22 pages and covers and covers how aircraft increased in size and complexity with focus on the development of more powerful engines, both jet and piston to power these aircraft.

The second section, covering 44 pages, discusses the aircraft that were prototypes and designs as well as a more detailed look at those that made it to production. The book concludes with two appendices. The first covering stalled and transient bomber projects. This includes such aircraft as the XB-35, XB-42, XB-51 and more. The second covers unflown designs such as the XB-53 and XB-55

This is an enjoyable book that covers much on engine development and the ever-increasing size and complexity of bomber designs over the 45 years covered. It is valuable to the historian due to just how well it covers this. The photos and color profiles can inspire aircraft schemes, dioramas, and to build some of the lesser-known prototypes for the modeler. Overall, an informative and useful volume.

My thanks to Casemate for the review copy and IPMS/USA for the opportunity!
