“The M26 Pershing was a heavy tank/medium tank of the United States Army. It was used in the last months of World War II during the Invasion of Germany and extensively during the Korean War.

The M26 was intended as a replacement of the M4 Sherman but a prolonged development period meant that only a small number saw combat in Europe.

The M26 was the culmination of a series of medium tank prototypes that began with the T20 in 1942, and it was a significant design departure from the previous line of U.S. Army tanks that had ended with the M4 Sherman. Several design features were tested in the prototypes. Some of these were experimental dead-ends, but many become permanent characteristics of subsequent U.S. Army tanks”.

About the Item

These highly detailed resin versions of the type 2 sprocket used on the M26 are meant as replacements for the kit supplied sprocket, bringing a whole new level of detail to the model. Since most of the M26 variants were developmental, it seems that both sprockets may have been used throughout that process. However, I’ve seen artist’s rendering of the type 2 used on T25 variants that were introduced in the field in limited numbers near the end of WWII.

There is light flash on the gray colored parts but the detail is crisp and cleanup with a sharp hobby knife is easy. The builder should determine if the subject they are building has a type 2 sprocket.

Care should be taken when removing the parts from their mounts to avoid damage. Epoxy or C/A glue is required for assembly. There are also three sets as I suspect the additional one is a spare in case the fragile parts get damaged.
