First, the usual “THANK YOU!” to Ross at SAC for providing IPMS USA this review set. Said it before and will again, it’s companies like SAC supporting us that keep the hobby interesting and viable. And thanks to the leadership at IPMS USA from me for allowing an old guy, once again, to babble on about a great product, which was graciously provided for my use… Steve, Dick, Paul, and the rest, you are doing a great job.

SAC metal gear – what can you say? Perfection is a good starting point. This set is intended to be a total, drop-in replacement for the kit plastic. You get all three main gear, nose and wing mounted, and associated actuating cylinders. The detail is as good as the real thing, and the strength of the new gear is truly appreciated.

Bear with me; the Wolfpack T-38 is the BEST of many other kits that have attempted to do a T-38. What Wolfpack has done is provide us, for the first time, with an accurate kit of the T-38 that is not a modification of the F-5B two-seater…because the nose gear is accurate, and the wheels are the proper high-pressure, thin-profile mains and, more visibly, nose gear/tire. And you get a choice of either ribbed or cast wheel for the nose gear. Same for the exhaust area; the boat tail fairing is correctly portrayed.

Here is where the SAC gear comes into play; the nose gear on a T-38 is not a fork, but an arm to which the wheel/tire mount . In plastic, it may last a few months. In metal, you will have safety and knowledge that the nose gear will not collapse in that time period. Heck, you can even bang it off the table, then bend it back into shape. (Just don’t do it a bunch of times, because you will work-harden the metal and it will eventually deform and snap.)

I was excited about the kit, and even more excited about the SAC gear. Perfectly cast, detailed, and strong, it’s worth every dime to ensure your “white mouse” will be on its legs for a long time. The pictures are of the T-birds T-38 without the gear doors to provide clarity for the SAC gear appearance.

Thanks again to SAC and IPMS for the review item; it rates a 10 of 10 for fit, strength, and accuracy!
