Euro Decals has provided the IPMS/USA reviewer corps with a wonderful decal set for the WWII Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vb in service with the Royal Air Force, South African Air Force, and Royal Canadian Air Force. There is no specific mention of a preferred model company for this decal set.

This 1/72nd scale decal sheet covers eleven (11) schemes:

  1. Spitfire LF Mk.Vb, BL415, “AZ-B”, flown by Flight Lieutenant Walt “Jonnie” Johnston of 234 (Madras Presidecy) Squadron, based at RAF Deanland, 6th June 1944.
  2. Spitfire Mk.Vb Trop, ER228, “ZX-6”, 145 Squadron, RAF, Egypt 1942.
  3. Spitfire Mk.Vb W3458, “YQ-X”, flown by Flight Lieutenant Les “Buck” Casson, 616 (South Yorkshire) Squadron, RAF Tangmere, 9th August 1941.
  4. Spitfire Mk.Vb EP464, “NN-E”, 310 (Czech) Squadron, based at RAF, Exeter, July 1942.

  11. Spitfire Mk.Vb BL753, “YO-H”, flown by Pilot Officer Don Blakeslee of 401 (Ram) Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, based at RAF Gravesend, May 1942.

In the Package

There is one (1) decal sheet provided with all the individual markings and roundels for one (1) RAF and one (1) SAAF airplane. However, if you want to do all eleven (11) aircraft, more roundels will be needed to complete the entire set.

Each plane gets its own sheet for illustration and decal placement. Exterior paint information is also provided for Humbrol, Xtracolour, Xtracrylix, Mr. Color Aqueous, MRP, and Vallejo Model Air.

The decals are printed by Fantasy Printshop with perfect registry and vibrant colors and with barely any clear decal film edging.

Conclusions

There are eleven (11) decal options for the Spitfire Mk. Vb and it may inspire you to build multiple planes. The markings are in perfect registry and the color tones look to be historically correct. If you are a fan of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vb and own a 1/72nd scale kit, then this is a must-buy.

I want to thank Euro Decals for providing this wonderful decal set and IPMS/USA for allowing me the opportunity to review it.

Highly Recommend to EVERYONE!
