The Sukhoi Su-17/20/22 family of aircraft were the primary air to ground to air for the Russian Air Force. It saw service during the Afghanistan war and was a primary attack aircraft during the Cold War.

The KP models and the soon to be released Kitty Hawk model of the Su-22 are out there. The main issue with many of these kits is the fragile pitot tubes that extend past the nose. The other issue with this particular aircraft are the pitot tube and AOA vanes on these protrusions. The limitations of plastic cause these parts to be slightly oversized. The other thing is mold release marks and trying to keep these tubes circular.

Packaged in a self-sealing baggie with a cardboard backing. Inside of this baggie is seven beautifully turned metal barrels and pitot tubes. They are packaged separately into each pitot tube and the gun barrels. Also inside the packaging are two cast resin pieces that feature beautiful detail. They are protected by a foam piece that totally surrounds both pieces and held in place by some tape to ensure they are safe and secure.

The instructions are easy to understand and point out exactly what size drill bits to use where. It also shows the proper assembly process to use the resin pieces in conjunction with the turned metal pieces.

The best things about a set like this are the strength that the turned metal parts provide, plus they also eliminate the need to clean up the mold lines. That ensures that the parts are perfectly round. The addition of the resin pieces with their prefect casting will add a lot of detail to the set.

This set, like ever Master set, is perfectly engineered. It provides strength, proportional thinness, and excellent detail for a small price. Another winner from Master Models.

Highly recommended

Thanks to Master Model and IPMS/USA for the review copy. You can obtain yours by contacting Master Model at https://www.master-model.pl . While you’re there I’ll bet you can’t buy just one set. I ended up buying five sets for my models. They may also be available at your local hobby shop or online retailer.
