Stars in the Sky
Iliad Design has provided the IPMS/USA reviewer corps with a wonderful decal set of Hollywood stars who served in the USAAC (WWII) & USMC (Korean War) and the planes they served in.
The following Hollywood stars are:
- Jimmy Stewart: B-24H Liberator “Male Call”, 703rd BS, 453rd BG, .
- Gene Roddenberry: B-17E Flying Fortress “Yankee Doodle”, 5th BG, 394th BS.
- Selar Shaik Sabu: B-24L Liberator “Janie”, 307th BG, 424th BS.
- Clark Gable: B-17F Flying Fortress “The 8 Ball”, 351st BG, 350th BS.
- Ed McMahon: Cessna L-19 Bird Dog, VMO-6 (USMC, Korean War)
In the Package
There is one decal sheet and two pages of instructions (printed front & back). It has individual markings for all five aircraft. Stencils, however, will need to be provided by the kit’s decals or from an aftermarket source.
Each plane is well illustrated for decal placement. There is no vendor paint information, but the general color names are mentioned (i.e.: aluminum, Olive Drab, Neutral Gray, etc.). The decals are printed in a perfect registry with barely any clear decal film edging.
There is no specific mention of preferred models for this decal set.
Conclusions
There are five marking options for the Stars in the Sky decal set, and it may inspire you to build multiple planes. The markings are in perfect registry and brilliantly printed. If you are a fan of interesting historical nuggets of Hollywood actors who served, then this is a great decal set to have. I have used Iliad’s decals in the past, and they are wonderful to apply to your model.
I want to thank Iliad Design for providing this wonderful decal set and IPMS/USA for allowing me the opportunity to review. Highly Recommend to EVERYONE!
