When Airfix released its new kit of the Spitfire Mk I the amount of detail in the cockpit was fantastic. When they brought out a new Mk IX everybody wondered, what happened to the interior?

This new set by Brengun will finally give you what you need to update the Airfix kit.

Most of the bits in this set are for the cockpit. This includes new sidewalls (both with and without entry hatch) with details, instrument panel with printed instruments, new control stick, new seat with supports, seatbelts, floor and bulkheads. There is a fuselage hatch for the radio and the radio and support are included. The rest of the set updates the wheel wells, gear doors (which are attached to the landing gear in the kit), radiator and intake screens and a few other bits for the wings and fuselage. There are even alternate parts for the wheels for either 4 or 5 spoked versions. While some of the details would probably look better made of rounded stock, you will end up with a very busy cockpit which Airfix really missed the boat on in this kit. The extras for the intakes and landing gear will also liven up the kit and turn this into a contest competitor (as long as you can fold and fit all the parts).

The instructions are included on both sides of the attached sheet and seem to do a pretty good job of showing what needs to be removed and what needs to be bent thought there are a couple parts that will take some looking at to figure out. One thing to watch out for is there are 3 #14s printed on the fret and 2 listed in the instructions. The 2 parts are completely different (one is a bit for the cockpit and the other is the pitot tube) so shouldn’t be an issue as you use this. The other #14 is printed in between two parts but they both have the correct part numbers by them also so shouldn’t be an issue. No color info is included in the instructions so make sure to check your references.

The amount of tiny parts is intimidating but the finished look will be so much better than the bare cockpit in the kit that I am actually looking forward to using this set. But might want to bend a few parts in a smaller set to get the hang of it first.

Thanks to Hauler and IPMS/USA for the review kit.
