When Cyber-Hobby came out with a 1/72 scale Sea Vixen FAW.1, model reviewers were quick to point out that the nose did not have the proper profile of a Sea Vixen. Quickboost has come to the rescue of those modelers who have been waiting for some aftermarket producer to correct this.

Upon checking drawings and photographs, it appears that Quickboost’s corrected nose will, in fact, do the job. No instructions are provided other than to cut off the casting gate flush and attach the resin nose to the plastic model. This is where a problem develops as the Cyber-Hobby fuselage halves create a step that the plastic nose will fit over, but will prevent the flush solid resin nose from working. (actually, it will create a gap). I thought of several ways to attach this resin nose and finally came up with a simple means to do the job. When you use a razor saw to cut the casting gate off leave about 1/16 inch of the pour stub on the back of the resin nose. Next, using side nippers, remove the lip or step that is at the front of the fuselage halves. Use a sanding block to clean up the cuts and remove any high points. After you have glued the fuselage halves together, you can now use some five minute epoxy (or CA if you prefer) to attach the resin nose to the plastic fuselage. You could cut all of the casting gate off and remove the step and the nose would still fit on, but you now have a butt joint which is not necessarily the strongest joint. The other way creates more bonding surface and locking area, in my opinion, for a stronger joint.

I can recommend this Quickboost product as it does provide the correct nose as claimed and it will make your Cyber-Hobby model more accurate. I just wish that Quickboost had done a better job with the instructions to attach the nose.

I want to thank IPMS/USA and Quickboost/Aires for allowing me the chance to do this review.
