The later Ju 88Gs and Ju 188 have always been favorites of mine, causing me to collect anything and everything about these aircraft. Surprising these latest editions from Hasegawa are not always easy to obtain here in North America this could be due to the timing of their releases as it happened during the distribution transition from Dragon USA to Hobbico. Nevertheless, now that Hobbico is established with the Hasegawa lines, these late war Ju 88/Ju 188’s should get easier to obtain. So it was with great excitement that I was able to review these engine intakes from Quickboost.
These resin intakes are free of any blemishes and are well protected on their casting block with resin "bookends" as now standard for Quickboost. They are easy to remove and easily snap off of their resin casting block. After a quick sanding in the area where they attached to the casting block and they are ready for installation. They are designed as straight replacements for part 16 on tree QB, so no surgery will be needed. I did find however that the attaching lugs needed to be trimmed in order to obtain a flush fit to the engine cowl; otherwise it is a very simple update that adds realism. I suppose you can drill out the kit intakes and get similar results but if you are like me with all thumbs you may end up messing it up and need the Quickboost replacements anyway. Besides, these replacement intakes are very affordable and time saving. See the photos below and judge for yourselves.
Thanks to Quickboost and to IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review this sample.
