Introduction to Yahu

Founded in Poland in 2013, Yahu Model is well-known for their high-quality, pre-painted photo-etched instrument panels. They offer a range of other products as well, including seatbelts, cockpit detail sets, and various enhancements for aircraft and vehicles.

About the Photo-Etch Set

The YML3504 set replicates the Scammell Pioneer’s dashboard and includes the winch placard. With pre-colored details, it makes achieving a realistic look straightforward and easy.

Comparison to the Actual Dashboard

This set provides an excellent representation of the actual Scammell Pioneer dashboard, capturing the look and layout with remarkable accuracy. While the package placard indicates compatibility with both IBG and Thunder Models kits, research and reference checks reveal that the panel is undersized for the Thunder Models dashboard and does not provide a proper fit.

Compatibility

The set is only compatible with the IBG version of the Scammell Pioneer kit.

Current Build Note

I am currently working on the Thunder Models Scammell Pioneer. While I am not finished yet, I have primed and painted with Model Color Yellow Olive 70.892 the interior and the winch area, and this Yahu set fits in beautifully and adds that extra level of detail.

How to Apply the Photo-Etch

The parts are best secured using a small amount of CA glue, which provides a quick and permanent bond, or with an acrylic hobby adhesive such as Gator’s Grip, which allows a bit more working time for precise placement. When the part is removed from the photo-etch sprue, it must be carefully filed to remove any burrs, ensuring a smooth edge and a proper fit. Once in position on the dashboard and winch area, the fit is excellent, with no trimming or adjustments required. This makes the process approachable for less experienced builders and satisfying for advanced modelers who demand accuracy and stability. The adhesives ensure the fine detail work remains securely attached, even during handling, painting, or weathering of the finished model.

Availability in the USA

This PE set is available from various vendors within the US.

Conclusion

In summary, the Yahu YML3504 instrument panel set is a superb aftermarket accessory that delivers an impressive level of authenticity to your IBG Scammell Pioneer build. The pre-painted details are exceptionally crisp, with sharply defined dials, legible gauge faces, and subtle color variations that replicate the look of real instrumentation far beyond what kit parts or decals can provide. The application is straightforward, making it suitable for both experienced and intermediate modelers who want to enhance their cockpit detail without the complexity of scratch-building. It should be noted that the set is engineered specifically for IBG kits and does not fit Thunder Model kits; the panel is undersized and will not properly align with Thunder Model’s instrument layout. Within its intended range, however, this set is an outstanding choice, offering historical accuracy, fine craftsmanship, and a level of realism that significantly enhances the finished model’s presentation.

Phil Cavender, IPMS/USA #50085, is a retired pharmacist from the Veterans Administration, having retired in 2011. While he explored model car building as a child, it wasn’t until 2015 that he rediscovered plastic scale modeling. His renewed interest emerged while researching his father’s military history, which led him to a local hobby shop. There, he met a former UK military tanker who reignited his passion for the hobby. After relocating to Myrtle Beach, Phil teamed up with six skilled modelers to co-found the Grand Strand Scale Modelers chapter of IPMS/USA. He now focuses on building armor models in scales from 1/35th to 1/16th.
