Des Brennan provides a thorough coverage of the development, deployment, service, and retirement of the Panavia Tornado ADV in this publication. Illustrated by Richard J. Caruana, this book is an excellent resource for the aviation historian as well as the modeler.

The written content is well written, in clear and precise language. The content is presented in chronological sequence, as most publications of this type are, beginning with a thorough description of the role into which a new aircraft was to fit. The author describes, in detail, the requirements that the aircraft was to meet in order to accomplish its purpose in a theatre of operations with rather complex needs.

The text is supported by a large number of excellent color images and stunning 3-view drawings of the aircraft with varied markings. Richard Caruana, the illustrator, certainly captured the aircraft well in these illustrations.

Of significance to the modeler, the color images are sharp, clear, and provide excellent “color” references. One of the more interesting components (to this reviewer) that the images show is that the rear fuselage of many of the aircraft is quite “dirty”. The Tornado used “reverse thruster buckets” to slow the aircraft to taxi speed upon landing, and the exhaust was deflected forward, giving the real fuselage a very distinctive “weathered” appearance.

The modeler will also appreciate the list of kits, decals, and accessories that the author provided on page 54 and 55. Since this publication has just been released (Nov, 2017) the list is up to date and very useful.

Of particular value to those who “detail” their models, the section labeled as “Panavia Tornado ADV in Detail”, contains 95 color images showing interior and exterior areas in close detail. Viewing these pages will definitely lead to the purchase of some of those accessories mentioned above.
