Model Art Issue 937 is typical of other Model Art magazines in that it is written entirely in Japanese, with occasional English words, usually in article titles or in captions. This Tools and Modeling issue is devoted to the “Right & Wrong of Your Common Knowledge of Scale Modeling”. There are two pages of contents that are grouped in five major chapters. Color tabs are employed to identify each chapter for easy location of each section. Advertising comprises the inside covers (and back cover) along with another four pages showing what is available and new, always useful for building up that wish list.

There are hundreds of color photos showing the latest tools. You will also find hundreds of color photos of the tools in action depicting what different tools do as on Page 92. Another good example is Page 45 demonstrating various micro-chisels and their effect on plastic. There are plenty of drawings illustrating the differences between tools as shown by drawings throughout the magazine (and shown on Pages 16, 54, and 87). One tool that I found interesting was on the top of Page 77 that depicted a way to fix a 1/35 helmet that had lost part of its rim when detached from the sprue. It appears to be an electrically heated wire cutter that permits one to grab a piece of plastic from the sprue and reattach it to the part by melting.

I find the Model Art magazines useful, even though I don’t read Japanese. This issue provides plenty of detailed photographs of the latest modeling tools and shows them in action, providing very useful information. Model Art magazines are available from Dragon Models USA’s many retailers and from various overseas retailers, such as Hobby Link Japan, Hobby Search 1999 Models, and Lucky Model.

My thanks to Model Art and IPMS/USA for the chance to review this great magazine.

Highly recommended!
