Model Art Magazine is a monthly magazine that covers aircraft, armor, ships and car modeling. Model Art started releasing magazines in 1966 and has evolved from there over the past forty six years.

Each issue of Model Art consists of a multitude of articles that reach out to all genres of modelers. From what I see, Model Art makes small changes to there format to keep each issue up to date and interesting to the reader.

This issue starts off with two short articles. The first being "MA New Item Special" and a diorama that takes place during the U.S. operation in Grenada featuring the new Tamiya Gamma Goat.

Next is the feature article. This month the focus is on the "Soviet War Machine during the Cold War". This consists of forty nine pages, color and black and white photos of models and actual vehicles. As with most of the feature articles Model Art uses models for representation. These models can be completed or they use in progress photos or a combination of both. The models used this month are as follows. The Kitty Hawk 1/48 MiG-25PD Foxbat, Trumpeter 1/72 Tu-22M3 Backfire C, Trumpeter 1/35 T-64A Mod. 1972, Panda Hobby 1/35 2S6M Tunguska, Trumpeter 1/350 Russian Cruiser Admiral Ushakov, Zvezda 1/72 Mi-24A Hind and the Hobby Boss 1/350 SSGN Oscar II Class Kursk.

Following the feature article are several smaller reoccurring articles. These are "Fleet Organized Course" which covers IJN vessels, the next is a modeler who covers different aspects of modeling (this month he does a review of the new GSI Creos "Acrysion), MA Event Report which is a photo report of different shows around Japan, Modeling the JASDF which takes a look at the Kitty Hawk 1/48 MiG-25 PD/PDS and concludes with an article covering the P-3 Orion in JASDF service.

Next is the "New Kit Review". Each month they cover several new kits available to modelers. This month they cover the Aoshima 1/24 Subaru Sambar TC Super Charger, Tamiya 1/24 La Ferrari, Airfix 1/48 Gloster Javelin FAW.9'9R, Foresight 1/700 Icebreaker "Shirase" AGB 5003 and the Sword 1/72 Nakajima C6N1-S "Saiun" (Myrt) Night Fighter.

The Last two articles are next. They are both a continuing series that run each month. I.J.A./N. Airplane Illustrated which covers details of aircraft. This and issue and several of the more recent ones cover different sighting devices. Neo Historic garage is the last article and the model covered this month is the Fujimi 1/24 Sileighty (S13+RS13).

The rest of the magazine consists of future releases of models and model products, book review and hobby shop ads.

Even though Model Art is mainly printed in Japanese, I still find it to be a very valuable resource. For those that are more technologically advanced there are apps that will translate Japanese to English. I use one of these and it really helps to understand the articles. I recommend Model Art to modelers as another publication that you can pull information from.
