This set provides a replacement nose pitot for the MiG-25 PD and PDS “Foxbat E” interceptor. The instructions do not list what kit the set is designed for, but the only MiG-25 PD/PDS kit in 1/72 scale that I am aware of is the ICM kit (recently released by Hasegawa under its label too). Unfortunately, I have the Hasegawa kit on back-order, so I was not able to compare the Master Model parts to a kit part for this review.

The set consists of just 2 brass parts which make up the needle-like nose pitot of the later interceptor versions of the Foxbat. As shown in the photographs, both brass parts are very nicely done and as with Master Model’s other sets, I am sure they will be a huge improvement over the kit pitot. The instructions tell you to drill a .6 mm hole in the tip of the nose cone to install the replacement pitot. If you are like me and don’t always hit the exact center of the radome when you go to drill, you may want to drill a little bigger diameter hole to give you a bit of room to get the pitot centered. Again, as I don’t have a MiG-25PD kit nose to compare the parts too, it is possible that you may need to cut off a small portion of the tip of the kit nosecone/nose to get the correct diameter needed such that there is just a slight step between the kit part and the new pitot base. Consult the instructions as you are working to ensure you get the proper placement.

Installation is easy once you have the proper alignment, use thin gel superglue to give you a little time to fiddle with the alignment as I suggested above before the glue sets. Once you have installed the pitot, watch out – it is sharp, like a needle.

Like Master Model’s other pitot sets, this set is very well made and will really enhance your model.
