Me 410 Propellers with Tool
Quickboost provides you with two spinners, six blades, and an alignment tool. Of note is the resealable packaging that Quickboost uses that makes the parts easy to review and then stuff back into the package securely. If you are ready to build the Meng LS-001 Me-410 B-2/U4 kit (or simply want to pop these on to your already finished kit), you will want to have had the improved spinner and propeller blades offered in this detail set.
Personally, it looks obvious that the tool makers continued the arc of the nacelles into the spinners that match up very nicely to many side profiles and drawings on the internet. Examining period photographs, it quickly becomes clear that the spinner has a longer arc that does not match that of the nacelles. If you wish to compare the sole real article on display at the RAF Museum in Cosford, you will notice the same issue. In the attached photos, you can easily see the stark difference between the Meng spinner (light grey and on the left) with the Quickboost spinner on the right.
The actual propeller blades may be more of an issue. Meng provides rather pointed propeller blades in their Me-410 B-2/U4 kit. Their later Me-410 A-1 kit provides retooled blades that have a broader tip (but still the same problem with the spinner). The real article on display at Cosford has squared off propeller tips. The other remaining real article is at the Paul Garber facility (Me 410 A-1/U1), but only the fuselage is easily seen. Maybe some NASM insiders could provide more input?
Quickboost has molded the set perfectly in light grey resin with no apparent bubbles. The props are suitably thin and of the correct cross section.
The propeller blade alignment tool provides a template to drill the hole for the prop shaft, assuring dead center.
When separating the blades from the resin pour stub, the blade mounting pins will have to be adjusted for the blades to fit to the proper depth into the spinner. Here, Quickboost’s alignment tool comes to the rescue and ensures the correct depth and angle for all three blades.
Although this set is specifically for the Meng LS-001 kit, the spinner alone would greatly enhance their LS-003 Me-410 A-1 kit as well.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to Quickboost and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review this set.
