Kaleido Color Works Cleaner (Brush & Airbrush)
The IPMS-USA recently began receiving items for review from Gaahleri. The company is relatively new and first introduced airbrushes and has since expanded into the production of their own line of paints. In addition to their individual and sets of paints, they have also released their own Cleaner, which can be used on both paint brushes and airbrushes. This cleaner is advertised as being non-toxic, odorless, non-flammable, and safe for the environment by Gaahleri.
The Kaleido ColorWorks Cleaner used in this review came packaged in a 210ml (7.1fl oz) bottle that sells reasonably at $9.99, which is comparable to other airbrush cleaners. I have successfully used the Cleaner for the Gaahleri ColorWorks Metallic paints as well as several of their Auto Colors. While the Cleaner does a nice job with initial cleaning, I continue to use a Lacquer Thinner for the final cleaning, and when I first added this to the “clean” color cup, I did force out a small amount of paint residue.
For this review I cleaned my Badger Renegade Velocity after painting Italian Racing Red paint from the ColorWorks Auto Color Set. I have pictures of the airbrush color cup prior to and after cleaning using only the Kaleido Cleaner. I typically use the airbrush cleaner for the brand of paint that I am using and backflush and swab out the color cup twice. This is what I completed prior to the “After Cleaning” photo (no lacquer thinner was used at this point).
In addition, I also wanted to try the Cleaner on a paint brush, as it is advertised as being able to clean them as well. In a tip of the hat to Bob Ross, I had a “happy mistake” as I bumped the tip of the test piece after I applied Modena Yellow for another review. I decided to use a paint brush to touch up the area and then used only this Cleaner to clean up the brush. I can state that the Cleaner functioned as I expected, and the brush was clean and ready for the next use.
Overall, I highly recommend this Cleaner after using Kaleido ColorWorks paints in your airbrush or paint brush! I thank the folks at Gaahleri for providing this set to the IPMS-USA Review Corps, and I appreciate having had the opportunity to perform this assessment.
