Scale Aircraft Conversions produces metal replacement parts for hundreds of kits in a wide variety of scales. Some of the landing gear sets are generic while others are designed to fit a specific kit. I’ve had some luck with cross-purposing some of the SAC gear, and having a Revell UH-34 in my stash I decided to compare this gear set, engineered for the Gallery kit, with the parts contained in my Revell kit.

The Parts

The SAC product is designed for an H-34, and my Revell kit is a UH-34. Googling images, I came to the conclusion that while there are some differences between the strut braces between the “H” and “UH”, I found enough similarity in appearance to assuage my concerns about significant differences in the appearance of the struts and bracing.

All that remained was a part-to-part comparison between my Revell kit parts and the SAC set which was, as previously mentioned, designed for the Gallery kit. You will notice in the accompanying images that the SAC metal V support is a bit longer than the Revell kit part, and also has three cross braces which the Revell part does not have. During my images search I found that some of the UH-34’s pictured had a single cross brace, and some had two, but I did not find any images that had all three cross braces. The cross braces do not present an issue since they can easily be removed. The fact that the SAC support is a bit longer than the kit part is also not a major concern. One can put a “receiving hole” in the fuselage to accept the locating pins on the SAC V brace, or one can remove those pins from the V brace and superglue the SAC part into place.

In short, while the SAC parts were engineered for the Gallery kit, they will work, with some adjustment, on the Revell UH-34. Also, significantly, the SAC parts have more surface detail than the Revell parts.

Conclusion

I have used SAC gear on other models and have found them to be stronger than the plastic parts that they replaced, and with a superior level of detail molded into them. This set of SAC gear is no exception, and I can recommend the H-34 SAC gear as a viable replacement for the Revell UH-34. Thanks to SAC for the opportunity to review this set of gear, and to IPMS/USA for providing this product to me for review.
